Hi,
My sustain pedal is squeaking annoyingly and before I start applying oil to my lovely piano I thought I should just ask if that is the right thing to do.
Piano is a yamaha c5 and the squeak seems to be coming from where the pedal goes into the piano (rather than the foot end)
I would just get my tuner to sort it out but the piano is in very good tune and I want to record with it tomorrow.
So any advice gratefully received.

Do not use oil. It will permanently damage your piano.

Call your tuner. There are a number of places where the squeak could be coming from. It is difficult to find the correct one.

I will second BDB's recommendation. Sometimes even experienced techs require time to sort these things out, and knowing what lubricants to use is important.

OK thanks, no oil will go near the piano.
The tech will have to come.
Thanks or the advice

Squeaky pedals can be notoriously difficult to diagnose at times. And with all the connected linkages, the sound can "travel" and even seem to come from a location distant from the actual source. It's far better to sleuth the actual source than to start lubricating everything. I agree with the advice so far: call your technician.
