Took the plunge!

Well, I did it. Today I bought a 1982 Yamaha G2 in really beautiful condition from a private seller, who is the original owner. The serial number shows it to be a piano built for N.A. in Japan. I had Steve Brady of Seattle inspect it and he gave it thumbs up. I can't wait to get it settled into my home so Steve can tune, voice, and regulate it.
I paid 6k for it. I think that's a good deal for what I got. After a month or more long journey that ran me up to 25k pianos and had me looking at players and everything else, I came back to what I set out to find in the first place: an affordable, good quality Yamaha grand that my son can practice on and I can enjoy playing for years to come.

Congrats on reaching a happy conclusion to your search. How long do you have to wait for delivery?

Congrats! I'm glad you achieved your goals.
This forum is good for many things and will always encourage those journeys into more expensive pianos, however the goal is to find & enjoy a piano. Many people come to enjoy the search more than the destination because it is fun to dream and have the attention of those who will help you dream. In the end, making music is better.

Good choice! I LOVE my 1987 Yamaha G2, purchased in Winnipeg in 1987 and moved with us to California in 2000. It continues to fill my cathedral ceiling living room with glorious sound, and everyone who plays it loves it. Mine was built for the North American market, but has weathered the years really well, according to my technician. Next week, he'll be treating it to its first voicing and regulation -and I'm assured that I'll love it even more. In my experience, it's a piano for a lifetime!

Congrads on the new addition to the family. Yamaha's are great pianos. Enjoy.

Congrats on reaching a happy conclusion to your search. How long do you have to wait for delivery? As soon as I can get the mover scheduled! Sometime next week, I'd think. I'll prep the location in the living room this weekend.

Congratulations, I think you hit the trifecta of really good used piano buys:
1. Private party transaction so no middle man 2. Home used lightly played instrument so low wear and tear and good environment 3. Quality brand and model inspected by independent Technician so confirmed good condition and good value

It's nice to hear Steve Brady's name mentioned here. He's one of the best techs anywhere. Nice guy, too.

Thanks BGJ. It's great to hear positive reinforcement for my plan. I agree, d4. Steve is among the best. In fact, I think I'll post a story about one of my purchase experiences, as a separate thread.
