I have been enjoying this piece, but there are some strange fingerings in my edition and I was wondering if anybody knows the reason (I am curious... ).
The 7th 16th note in the second Presto (G#) is supposed to be played with the LH (2), and the same applies later to another G# in the bass staff. I can play both without any problem with the RH, so I was just curious if there is a specific reason for playing them with the LH?

I have not played this piece in ages, but I can see what you're talking about on the sheet music.

For straightforward passages like this, it is fine to play it with the right hand only.

I presume the use of the left hand is an alternative to the fingering. If you feel more comfortable with just right hand, by all means use it.

Personally I do not find the addition for the left hand to be of help. It would cause some tempo problems (especially since these are 16ths) if you played the G# with the left hand too soon or too late. Best to keep the notes all under one hand (and the notes all fit perfectly under the hand)

That's what I think too. Particularly considering it is a Presto (and, as you said, 16th notes), using the LH just for one note interrupts the flow...

I think there is a logical explanation for that alternate fingering. The G-sharp with the left hand eliminates the need for cross-over fingering. With the fifth finger playing the top E, the right hand can play 4, 3, 2, 1 down to A, strike the G-sharp with the left hand, the continue with right hand 3 on the B-flat.

It's been years since I've played this but I seem to recall that it was the B-flat that I played with the left hand, particularly since it is an accented note each time it is played in this descending cadenza; it was easier for me to bring it out with the left than with the right.

Thank you for explaining the reason for that fingering, Bruce! Somehow I feel comfortable with the cross-over fingering, but I understand some might find playing the G# with the LH easier for the reason you mention...
