I think those may be fake animal skins... Liberace may have murdered good taste but not any furry critters in this case.
I'm not sure why the OP's original question, which seems to come up over and over, needs to be asked at all. There is no real answer, and there never will be.

Elene They weren't fake. He took a lot of heat at times for not just wearing them, but owning them. He spent a small fortune accumulating them, but then the man was loaded and making more money than he knew what to do with.

I think I am turning into a grumpy old so-and-so, as questions about the 'best' pianist, the 'best' composer, 'best' recording etc, etc tend to irritate me these days. I think it is an impossible, even meaningless, question. Best to who, for what, playing what? Completely agree. Its such an empty question, and it's impossible to answer, since there is no, nor there ever will be, "greatest" pianist.
