Roaring Jelly, the band I'm in, got accepted to play at the Evanston, Wyoming, Ceili at the Roundhouse festival in June!!! Old Blind Dogs, a Scottish band, is headlining, and several other "regional" bands have been selected for concerts. WOWZER.

I posted links to some of our audition music in last month's piano bar because the piano back up I play on them is what I do most of, rather than the solos for the ABF recitals. But here they are if you missed them:

Catharsis

Rights of Man/Delahunty's Hornpipe

We played for part of an Irish dance performance last weekend, a charity event this weekend, we're doing St. Pat's Weds eve, and a dance in early May. So we've got a lot on our plate.

But this is so cool I just had to announce it laugh

Wow, great tunes! Oh, and great news! smile I really enjoyed listening, I missed your posting in the piano bar.

How many musicians play in Catharsis? how many for the second piece/s (it has two names)

Is Catharsis a traditional song or modern?

Thanks, all. I'm really keyed up laugh

How many musicians on each tune. Hm. I think there were 3 or 4 fiddles, an octave mandolin, a whistle, a guitar, and me. I think the guitar was only on Rights of Man/Delahunty's, and we may have had fewer fiddles on Catharsis. We were recording one night and after about 9:30 some folks have to leave from jam. We have 8 or 9 regulars, including a second piano player, and some folks who show up once in awhile, and some who drop in for visits. When we get a gig we ask for a show of hands, and that's who plays.

Catharsis is a modern tune composed by Amy Cann. One of our fiddlers found it in a tune book called The Portland Collection, put out by the Portland, OR contra dance "mega band" (a tradition in contra dance circles of having an "all comers" band from the dance community that plays for some dances. I think the Portland band has 20 or 30 players, and I believe Santa Fe's megaband is almost that big at the minute.) Roaring Jelly is kind of a modified megaband based in Los Alamos, NM.

Thanks again. We're pretty excited laugh

Thanks smile

Also, the bodhran on Rights/Delahunty's is the whistle player. She trades off.

Congrats! Sounds like a huge gig.

Also thank you for reminding me of 'Rights of Man' :-)
I haven't heard it in years.
(used to play it when I was in a folk group, back in the 70's)

Thanks again, all. We're now in the process of reviewing proposed slogans to put on the side of our bus laugh (and yes, we *do* have a virtual bus).

In the past we went from "Damn, We're not as bad as we used to be" to "16 bars in 17 seconds" (a reference to a dance tempo). Others have been kind of in-jokes, as slogans for non-famous bands might be. I recently suggested something along the lines of "After ten years, an overnight success." I'm sure we'll think of many more smile

This is a big deal for us. Thanks again for your well-wishes.

Cathy
