I have been with my current teacher for almost 2 years now and when I look back at where I was and where I am now, I'm truly amazed at the progress I have made! I first heard my teacher play at a concert and miraculously he was accepting new students so I jumped at the opportunity and never looked back.

My teacher really focuses on the basics (the right techniques, tone production and injury prevention) and musical interpretations suitable for the composer/period, etc. while allowing some freedom for me to make something "more me."

My teacher is very strict and is a perfectionist, but he is never harsh and is always encouraging me to strive for the next level of playing.

My playing is beginning to have presence, the undefinable quality of why some people's playing draws you in while others are just not very interesting.

So just want to say that a great teacher is the best thing that can happen to a piano student! I feel truly blessed! smile

I agree and think it is very important to have a good piano teacher. I had a two very good teachers when i was learning, and their experience was invaluable. If you get a good teacher they teach you things that make a piece a performance aswell as being able to play it well...If that makes sense!

I totally agree with everyone here. I'm very amazed that I got where I am in less than 2-3 years from scratch. My teacher has taught me a lot approaching to music and myself

Agreed. I just landed a fantastic teacher after 12 years of dealing with a mediocre one and I've made so much progress since our first lesson together.
