Bosendorfer 225 - 6 months ago I traded in my 200 for a 225 and find a whole new level of competition with my kids to play it. It's very enjoyable how much they appreciate the characteristics and capabilities of this instrument -- even though we had loved the 200 for 5 years. I had considered a Bluthner and a Steingraber but in the end couldn't resist the beauty of the Bosendorfer sound that I so much enjoy. The 225 brings a staggering level of ability to vary the sound and color and incredible dynamic range. I don't know how the touch could be so impressive. Just 10 inches of length (and 4 extra bass strings) brings an extraordinarily different bass character -- ability to play much softer with much more texture and the ability to "growl" at higher volumes. And yet it retains the delicate, pure, singing treble of my old 200. It would be so fun to "live" with a Bluthner and a Steingraber as well to appreciate their qualities as well. I just wanted to share my experiences and would welcome thoughts of anyone familiar with those brand or others.

Haleydog,

You are most lucky not only to live with a Bösendorfer but also with kids who love the piano!

I can fully imagine and appreciate the experience yoou are describing.

I am a big Bösendorfer fan myself and would already be most happy with a 200 CS, an instrument that I played a couple of times and enjoyed much ...unfortunately this will unlikely come true.

Enjoy your 225 for many years to come! smirk

schwammerl.

Your description of the Bosey matches its reputation exactly!

You are very fortunate to be able to own such a fine instrument.

Hey no furtwangler! They are adopting me!

I cant stress it enough how lucky your kids are to be able to play on a Bose! I cant even dream of playing a new one! I once played an old old old one a long time ago.

Agree wholeheartedly about the 225...such a special piano indeed! My teacher is currently in the middle stages of his 6-part Chopin/Schumann recitals here in Houston, and the performance is on a brand new 225. It is absolutely gorgeous looking and sounds phenomenal. And you are spot on with the bass...just breathtaking. I wish you and your kids the best of times on your new Bosie!

Cheers,

David

Lucky indeed. A Bose 225.

I think you should definitly dream of not only playing, but owning one all for yourself to enjoy!

Ha.

Here in town, all we have is a Mason and Hamlin dealer, A Kawai dealer, Yamaha dealer (Now closed), Steinway & Boston dealer, and some other small brands.

No Bosendorfer, Bechstein, Fazioli, Baldwin, Hailun etc.

Its kinda sad, because I dont have the chance to go and try a fine high end piano except for a small selection of smaller, and custom Steinways, and Mason and Hamlins (not that either of those are bad or anything!!!)

So am I! For years I thought that it was the ultimate piano. Then I discovered Steinways in tip-top condition (or maybe just well prepped) and changed my mind. The great and late Oscar [Peterson] always chose Bosies, I believe.

Bosies seem to be more consistent than many other pianos. If I owned a 225 I would probably never look back or want to change instruments again. Lucky you!

Haleydog, I couldn't agree more with your description of the Bosie. I am fortunate enough to own one and it is just magical. And I agree with the other posters who said your kids are very lucky. Enjoy!
