No, but I don't think anything's stopping them from leaving the monastery and joining the clergy.

I actually spent some time looking at this, and I learned something. Not all priests are monks. For instance, I don't believe the Jesuits are a monastic order. To be a monk, you have to belong to a monastic order. Some monks are priests, but not all of them. Priests are ordained, and therefore can serve communion and hear confessions. All monks take vows, including the vow of chastity.

I'm thinking that every monastery must have at least one priest, because they certainly do a lot of communing and confessing. I looked at a biography of Mendel, and he was both a monk and a priest. He became a monk first, and was later ordained as a priest. He was in and out of monasteries, but he was an Augustinian, which is a monastic order. They proudly claim him.

You see, hanging out on this board can make you learn something. I'm Presbyterian, and we don't even have priests. We ordain elders, some of whom are preachers, but most of whom are lay people like me (I'm an elder). Elders basically run the church, and we serve communion.

I hope there are no practicing Catholics out there ready to jump me on my understanding of the monk/priest dichotomy.

bender is a common term for a homosexual. Redhart has reviewed various other musically related products including Penetrating Wagner's Ring:

wdot,
Technical detail: The Augustinians are not a monastic order. They are friars (like the Dominicans, Franciscans and a few others). Friars do belong to the mendicant order, and perhaps that is what you meant.
The Benedictines are the main monastic order in the Catholic Church.
The Jesuits are brothers or priests.

The only real good one is the last one.
