I found these suggested retail prices at 'piano blue book'. They seem extremely optimistic to me - by close to 50% in some cases. Anyone know what these are actually bringing in the marketplace. I know of a 5'7" that sold for $6,500 and a 7' for @ $10,000. I've also seen a 7' offered for significantly lower than that. (the format didn't cut and paste very well, but you get the idea)

I don't know what exactly new selling prices are for Pearl River, but a local Ritmueller dealer here has advertised now for over 1/2 year consistently: "NEW GRANDS from $ Can 1,988" which is about US 1,720 - one hell of a bargain!! And judging by the long time he has been advertising, he must have lots of them...... NEW GRAND Pianos starting at $1988, even less for cash! Toews Music 1-800-661-1801 Toews Music Centre Tel: 604-859-1801 web page Could a 6' grand be any more than $ 5k according to that? I don't of course suspect these "NEW GRANDS" to be his Seiler grands... norbert

Well I gave the 800 number a call, and someone named Calvin said that they had bought a truckload of pianos that had some scratch and dent boo boos from shipment. Did the add mention that? arghh
Even with cosmetic flaws, the price seems to be to be a loss leader, since cosmetic problems could almost always be fixed at less of a financial loss than selling the piano retail for 1720 US would be.

They've been telling the same story for many months now. The real problem is that the advertised "NEW GRANDS for Can $1,988" never existed and were always sold out just the day before you would come to the store to shop for them..... Anybody else here like to call their 800 number and hear what the story is? And do ask them what the brand name of these Can $ 1,988 NEW GRANDS is! Dealers like that certainly don't seem to do the name brands they represent a great favour. It certainly *can* affect pricing in the market place and the perceived value [or lack of it...] of such makes and products. Most definitely, it reflects poorly on those manufacturers who are said to "sell truck loads of damaged goods" - which in all likelihood never existed. Unless all these pianos, of course, were quite poorly build in the first place..... So - if I was in the market for a Ritmueller or Pearl River grand in Western Canada, I certainly wouldn't spend diddli-squat. I would simply wait for the next great 'damaged goods' *truck-load sale*. Starting at $ Can 1,988 !! Norbert

wscott i am getting the ritmuller...the owner of the store has been holding it for me as he knew how much i wanted it but my check still hasnt come in he has been holding it a month i called him a few days ago and told him he could sell it and i would just pick out another one he said no if someone wants a piano like yours i will order it that is your piano. i thought that was way cool. i am getting the up118r3, i was tempted to go up to the 125r because i read about it and said it was a better piano but it didnt meet my current needs and wants. the up118r3 is soooo sweet, the sound the touch i just fell in love with it, i cant even explain it. i told the owner the voicing i wanted and went back to practice one night after my lesson and it was perfect the way he voiced it for me. i really love it:)thanks for giving me the oppurtunity to share this. and sorry if i ramble on, thats just me....

Congrats on the 118R3 funburger, that's a very popular model where I work. I also like hearing about a dealer doing some custom voicing to a piano, for a particular persons needs. That's the type of dealer we need more of in the whole industry, people that take pride in the products and brands they sell, not those who cheapen them.

yes the guy is actually the owner of the store, and he does the piano work. very nice to work with!!! i have been blessed to walk into his place. cant wait till the check comes in so he can drop it off!!!well his store will drop it off, then 2 weeks later he will come and tune it for me:) i just cant wait. the old upright i have now is so awful, sometimes if i get my house really hot it will sound good, but when its chillier notes are so sharp they go up a whole note and i think i sound like junk when its the piano that is off key. anyhow cant wait to get it. i am so excited. hopefully by the end of this week!!!

yeah, i really like the piano, but as i said its in and out of tune---depending on the temperature....i have never had it tuned, and i got it from a school at the end of jan this year----on the inside it says a440 1936 and it really has this nice tone to it when it wants to. the last five treble keys dont work unless i open the top and push the hammers back---but i believe there is 2 hammers missing. but i dont use those last five yet anyway. all other keys work. the dealer offered me a hundred for it sight unseen which was fine as i got it for free. i contemplated having it rebuilt but on this forum people said to just buy a new one. i also have a recording of it but its all in the middle keys. the upper keys have a circus sound to them. i wanted to keep the piano as well as the new one but my husband said no. he laughs when i play waltzes an octave higher, as it does sound pretty bad. but i still love this piano as it has this tone to it sometimes that really catches me, so its in those times i do my most practicing.

we got our 5'9" ritmuller for 8200 including moving. after playing the ritmuller and the pearl river side by side, my wife said the ritmuller was twice the piano the pearl river was. upon inspection (with my untrained eye) the pearl river didn't bother to show the grain on the soundboard, the ritmuller had a beautiful grain and construction. not to mention the renner action (agian, im not very knowledgeable) but it was the way it played that made her decide on it, and my wife has no regrets about it.

snaps, what is the model number on the 5'9", I wasn't aware they made one in that particular size. BTW 8200 was really a great price, I'm basing that on the cost of their 5'3" As to the soundboards on both pianos, they are both pretty much constructed the same way in most sizes, but as you mentioned in the post, you selected the piano that you liked the most. Hard to argue with that

It's nice you enjoy your piano - but a 'Renner' action it surely doesn't have. If that's what your salesman told you - he was lying. Plain and simple. Norbert

funburger: I didn't say "Ritmueller doesn't have a grand with Renner action". Some of their 7' and bigger probably do.... I said, snap's above mentioned 5'9 for $ 8,200 *aint* - and the uprights 118 and 125 you looked at - *ain't* either. Or were you told otherwise? It's easy enough to check out.... Norbert

Norbert thank-you for the reply, i know the upright i bought doesnt have it, i didnt think they made any ritmuller upright with renner action, as i was in the dealer and the owner showed me the ones with renner action and if my memory serves me the babies didnt. the dealer i goto is severly honest. he said the same thing as you now, but before i thought you were saying none of them had renner. sorry it was late....thank-you for the reply as it straightened me out:)

thanks for the information. the dealer came highly referred by some other musicians in the valley. the 183r1 is listed as a 6'0" home concert, but measures as a 5'9" (even on their website). i may have been mistaken on the renner action. my wife says it isn't an actual, but an copy of it. ???? again, im not the musician, nor the expert. that's why im here. she played it, and she picked it.
