We have a grey market Kawai. It's a 1979 vintage and is 49", but I've forgotten the model number. I'm fairly certain it was in someone's home, it's a mahogany finish and none of the moving parts show much wear. We paid $2500 for it two years ago, including delivery, tax, and one tuning. Since then it has required a pitch raise once it settled ($125), a little regulation ($75), and the obligatory two tunings a year (originally $95 each, we now use an RPT who charges $125 and is well worth it). It's been a very solid piano, it's satisfying to play and I'm just now beginning to make it sound decent. My daughter, on the the other hand, makes it sound wonderful.

Hopefully in a few years we'll be able to trade up, it was never meant to be our permanent piano.

I can certainly see the point of not spending $4500 on a grey market U3, and instead getting a new Chinese or Indonesian made 48" upright, especially if you're planning on keeping it for 20 years or more. That's a lot of money for an old upright.
