I found that I have a book of "Solos for New Age Piano" by David Lanz. Is anyone here familiar with David Lanz or his Piano Solos. Any and all comments would be welcome. I want to learn about the man and his music before I spend hours practicing. Some of the solos in the book look nice. Also if someone can explain to me exactly what is meant by "new age music". I take it to mean don't like classical and don't care much for the modern day junk so I will now do my own thing.

Personally, I hate the term 'New Age' as a classifation, or genre.

Sounds like a tree hugging, knit your own yoghurt, composer.

'Contemporary' is more descriptive, IMO.

Hi Rob and Swingin Barb. I agree, I don't like the term "new age" very much. But that is what they call it so I just copied.
Yes Swinin Barb. I saw and read his web site. I ask on here because I would like the opinions of people on this forum. Web sites only paint the rose colored side. Thank you for responding. Hoping for more. John

John -- there have been some David Lanz threads this year in the Adult Beginner's Forum. You may want to repost this topic over there. Also, check out these two threads:

Hope this helps.

I have one more question about this man's music - what would be the best venues for playing his music. Any/All places or just certain places?

A month ago I knew nothing of this man or his music. Today my computer is full of it. It might just take a life time to learn a small portion of it. However, it is my main daily practice project at present.

Thanks to all of you for your help. John

LOL, same here. It makes me think of, I don't know, the music played while you focus on your crystal or something XD
