I have to admit I'm really stymied. People keep asking my genre and I can't really answer. Contemporary Piano? Easy Listening but challenging? Jazz tones but not Jazz?

This is my number one pet peeve in conversations cause I end up dumbfounded how to answer people then I always end up going "you know that player? Yeah kinda like that but mix it with this player and this player but then put this twist on it"

Can you give a listen and post what genre (concise name) you feel this music is in?

(there's only 3 pieces up but "Thinking" is my main style for the album)

Yep, New Age.

I heard somewhere that that's actually one of the best ways to effectively relate to people what you sound like.

Hi Nathan,

Well I don't hear classical but I defintely hear 'new age' qualities which are repetitive patterns [especially in the left hand] and what I call a meandering melody. Nice, pleasant sound.

Thanks for feedback. I don't really feel in New Age because of my use of modes (I love dorian) and faster key use. It does seem like the closest example though.

Hmm,. . .I vote for New Age, because of the peaceful mostly constant rhythms, no super fast scales/patterns, a modal harmonic structure (which kind of defines New Age for me), and the sense of a single solidly-anchored key center.
Jazz, to my thought, would have a more angular rhythmic structure, and probably an augmented/diminished/altered harmony with much more frequent changes.
Easy Listening brings to mind simple pop music tunes with bland/boring lack of dynamics and simple obvious harmonic structure; your harmonies are more interesting than that.

I'd just go with "you know that player? Yeah kinda like that but mix it with this player and this player but then. . ."

Thanks for giving a detailed listen elecmuse =). New Age it is then I suppose. You're right though, it's much easier to say something like "Nevue, but with less waltz, more strikes, and a bit more dissonant"
