Playing the piano unconsciously

Hey, I've always had the habit/twitch of moving my fingers like I was playing the piano even when not even THINKING about the piano. Like, I'm walking or just sitting listening to what the teachers say and there I am: moving my fingers like if I was playing the piano. So.. some time ago, I was in a self-service restaurant and some woman approached me and said "Hey! You play the piano, don't you?", and, shocked, I answered yes and asked how she knew. She said "You were moving your fingers like if you were playing the piano! My daughter has that habit too and she plays the piano. That's how I knew you played the piano! btw, PIANO! [I added this last part]" I hadn't even realised I was doing it, yet I was. So.. Here's my question (finally! I always write too much... -.-): do you have that habit too? Have you ever been asked why you do it? What do you think is the cause of it? Practice? Happy face for y'all!

I remember my unconscious piano-playing habit during my childhood being so acute that EVERYBODY noticed. It took my parents/my siblings a good few years of telling me off each time I started doing it until I stopped. I guess it's a more sophisticated/more musical version of thumb-sucking

I do this all the time, especially when I'm stressed in class, working my way through an exam or tackling new material. Helps me focus/think!

My grandmother was a piano teacher.
One of my most tender memories is from about ten years ago: Me driving across the state of Michigan, she in the front seat asleep, Mozart piano concertos playing on the car's stereo, and her fingers, on their own, twitching and playing in response to the music. It must have been a wonderful dream.
