Hi there,
I am a fan of the Alfred Series and can't decide between the Basic Prep Course or the Music For Little Mozarts for students 4-6. What is real difference between the two and what ages would be appropriate for either "Prep" or "Mozarts"?

good wishes,
Reid

Reid, I'm not certain whether they are out of favor, or the teachers who use them just haven't had a chance to check in. Monday is my off day, but on busy days, I can only check in early AM and then, if not too tired, at the end of the day.

Reid,

I know at at my school our teachers would most likely opt for the Basic Prep course as it may flow into the Alfred Basic Piano Course a bit better. Having said that it is entirely up to the individual teacher as in the past we have had some very talented teachers use the Music For Little Mozarts with great results as well. She was using the Music For Little Mozarts in a early childhood class setting rather than a private lessons. So I guess it really depends on your circumstance and deciding what you are trying to achieve with your students. You may find that you eventually end up using both.

Its my opinion that choice of method book is really finding the right tool for a particular job. There are many things to consider.

An couple of examples could be:
Are you teaching private lessons or classes? Do you have siblings working from the same book? If you do you need to work with the parent to decide whether that is a good thing or not. In some cases its fine for siblings to share a book other times it creates an undesirable competition between them or not.

I know that many experienced teachers opt to use a variety of methods with different students just to break up the monotony of hearing the same tunes everyday.

I hope that gives you some ideas.
