Just curious if anyone on this forum has experienced the subject course? His website is "www.chordpower.com" and it seems he's primarily in Canada at this time.

My neighbour & I attended one of his workshops this week in Vancouver, neither of us bought the course, but we're intrigued nevertheless. I've played the simple basic chords he presented at the workshop and impressed how nice just "doodling" on the piano sounds. His website doesn't mention it and I haven't found any mentions of it yet, but he said he's patented something called "The Shape" - a way to learn/play chords.

As background, I'm familiar with Scott Houston's "Piano in a Flash" fund raising segments on PBS and just saw it was on again this afternoon, and the little piano I've learned is by osmosis as my 6 (almost 7) year old has been taking RCM "style" piano lessons since last fall. I do have some music background having played some woodwinds in high school.

There are now hundreds of these "play popular/jazz piano in a
flash" type courses online. They seem to be more or
less similar, and I see nothing about this one that distinguishes
it from the others. I've never used one, but I'm an
experienced player who knows the difficulties in playing,
and I'm not buying their extravagant claims. They
appear to be of little value: the customer ends up
being able to play a number of pieces specially prepared
for the course and little else.

I would suggest instead continuing what you're doing now,
that is, learning by osmosis from your child. That's
an excellent word, osmosis. It implies "picking things up by
ear," which is exactly what you want to be able to do in
popular piano.

Why was my post deleted, and not the person who gave an answer that wasn't really an answer, much less a useful answer? This is censorship. Someone asked if anyone had tried out the Amazing Chord Power System, and the only person who responded aside from myself was someone who hadn't tried it out and was just pulling answers out the air. I actually tried it out and was censored. Nice. I guess if you come here looking for advice based on experience, good luck smile

While the course does have a few practice pieces for you to learn initially (as do most piano courses), the course also provides you with the tools to go out and be able to play from any fake book or lead sheet. I.e., you can take what you learned and play millions of songs.

I've completed the course and am now able to play songs on the piano from fake books and lead sheets. I'd tell you more, but apparently I'm one of these:

I'm sure you are aware that askme@private.com was written in a facetious manner smile I don't need people I don't know emailing me at my actual address.

I am aware that there are plenty of courses and books discussed at these "genuine discussions". I wrote a genuine response to Southsloper based on my experiences with the Amazing Chord Power System, and my response was deleted as a "sockpuppet response". That's all.

i wish i had done my research before getting it but, it sounded so good and considering my years of trying to play, i thot it was worth taking the risk of getting the discount price at a workshop. so i got the program yesterday and am willing to get my money's worth and give it a try. so please from someone who has actually taken the program, did it work for you ? thanks.

I saw his workshop here a few weeks ago, and came home and played all the stuff we covered, and it sounds great and I am very interested. Finally it was on my mind so much over teh last few weeks, although pricey, I went ahead and ordered it a few days ago... I really hope its as good as it appeared... I am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

so anyone else, Kade included that bought this program... how did or are you finding it ??

Lol

I'm calling "Sock Puppet Alert!" again.

When this thread notification popped up 2 days ago I had a little chuckle remembering the worst sock-puppet attempt I've seen in some time (other than "Hey I've just found this site...").

amadeus1954's plea of innocence was funny too for obvious reasons.

The thread bumped by a new member? hmmmmm. I'm being sceptical again ? Considering the first few posts here.....

I deliberately waited. I had a feeling this thread wouldn't fall back to page 2 or 3, into history again. In fact I was expecting another brand new member to comment, not a regular. I'm psychic you see. wink Low and behold another new member joins. Nothing since last July and now this?

Even if I'm wrong this brings up an opportunity to post the following...

At the time when amadeus1954 posted I did some research and didn't bother to post it. But since we have a bumped thread...

Days before amadeus1954's posts Paul created his own Wikipedia page sick which was subsequently deleted on the 21 July 2009. It was still in the Google cache.

http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/9715/screenshotneilwikipedia.jpg

The links in the article all point to his website. I saved a copy of the page. Looks like he was busy making an on-line presence around that time.

This report may be of interest too.

Make up your own mind. I wouldn't trust any poster without a proper history on here. Especially when products are involved.

Why would one risk the image of a product and tarnish it through dodgy self-promotion ?

A search on Google concerning the product mentioned here quickly leads you here. Talk about shooting oneself in the foot.

I would apologise to the site owner and ask to delete the thread.

now I am wary and unsure.... thanks for the info..

the one thing that convinced me to purchase, is that he offers a 100% money back guarentee... I am very careful when I part with money and if I think I was wrongly treated, or money not well spent, I go back and fight to the source.

I guess I will reserve judgement for when it arrives...

If only you got to see the original infomercial that amadeus1954 posted. I should have subscribed from the first post. I'm sure a lot of us have regretted doing that on some drama filled thread that gets edited. grin Google has a cache though.

Thats basic consumer rights unless there is something in there that extends that.

I would contact these folks if I got in a rut.

The product itself isn't in question. I'm sure its fine. Its the marketing that needs attention.

There are better ways to promote oneself other than literally "promoting yourself" on the net through Wikipedia etc

There are quite a few people on here that have products/services for hire. Be it authors, piano-techs/tuners, piano-teachers, piano-vendors etc. They can embed their url in their signature and profile page (crucial for google rankings).
Lets stay above board.

Hello, I'm new here and wanted to reply re: Paul Neill's piano system. I've been taking his course since January 19, 2010 (about nine weeks now) and it is amazing! I'm having so much fun with it and it does work if you follow the program! I have no piano-playing experience. I was playing the accompaniment to 'Amazing Grace' with both hands in 2 days! I don't plan to play at Carnegie Hall, so this is a great way to learn. I'm on Step 15 (Book 4 of 6 books) of his 25 steps. I've just started learning the notes and will be able to build melody around the chords (with lots of embellishments e.g., echoes, rolls, kickbeats etc.)
I love the program and would highly recommend it...

Syndie

Hm. Has there been some, uh, encouragement to post about this course? It just seems strange that this thread would be revived and then posted to again so recently.

But if not -

well, Syndie, I hope you stick around and post about some other things too - there's lots of good discussions here.

100% money back guarantees are very nice indeed... when they are honored. smokin

A while back we had a piano dealer who offered 100% money back guarantees on his pianos but didn't deliver, went bankrupt, and left several nice people out of their 'full purchase price paid in advance but satisfaction guaranteed' grand pianos that they never received. frown

The Paul Neill program may be completely on the up and up and the best thing since sliced bread. I've never looked into it so couldn't say. Caveat emptor, is all I'm saying.

But what I want to know, nuddernewf, is why it's so important to you to post only on this topic, and only after it was brought up after a 6-month hiatus, and the only people posting, besides those of us who are skeptical, are brand new ABFers who have posted - only on this topic. Like maybe they're looking to specifically post about how good this program is.

It still looks strange to me.

But I'm known for being skeptical.

+1. If these posters' sole purpose to sign up to the forum is to toot the horn of this system and they're not interested in discussing anything else on the forum, you gotta ask what their real motives are and whether they're really unbiased or not.

you asked why I used this topic...

When I was innitially looking for information about the program a few days before I was booked to attend a workshop, there wasnt much out there. In fact there still isnt... thats why I subscribed to this forum and asked questions... which by the way I got no real answers on

I guess because I went in blind and basically came out pleasently surprised, it might be nice for others to know that - seeing as they are probably doing the same searches on the system as I did.

Also this is a piano forum.... Until I have more experience, and feel I have something to contribute, I am just sitting back watching and if the need arrises I will post.. If you notice my initial posts were wondering if anyone else knew anything about this program (who cares if the topic is years old or months old).. Its obviously something that is still on the market. Then I took a chance spent my money, had it for a few weeks - posted I was finding it great, but it appears you all want just the negative. If I had come back and said it was all a crock, the majority of you would have cheered it, by human nature you want others to fail.

lastly, without knowing me, dont question my integrity, I dont have an alterior motive when it comes to passing compliments or just as freely giving critism about a product or service....This is a forum for discussion, I just followed a topic that was posted on before, without any real answers or responces...

Next time I post on the merits of kraft dinner

Once bitten, twice shy.

Its a bit much to expect people to give any newbie the benefit of the doubt if they have read the rest of the thread with people signing up to solely to discuss one subject. Blame them.

Any genuine posts will just look like more socks at this stage. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Nobody is disputing the course contents or wanting it to be crap. There are plenty of fakebook/improb/composing etc type courses doing these here.
