Good evening chaps,

This month's German 'KEYBOARDS' magazine has a nice comparison of vintage EP sounds on the latest stage pianos:

- Korg SV1
- Nord Stage
- Yamaha CP1
- Roland EP expansion board SRX12
- ASS Louge Lizard software
- Modartt Pianoteq software

http://www1.keyboards.de/magazine/index.html

Downloadable MP3 clips are also available (to readers only)
The second SV1 Wurly clip sounds bloody terrific in my opinion, so delicate, with a warm background fuzz....mmmm!

Cheers,
James

Thanks James - is the actual article available online without subscribing? If so, how do I access it? I tried accessing the site through Google translate but that isn't helping me.

Greg, the magazine articles are not available online unfortunately, only in print, while the downloadable MP3s require a password in order to access the content.

Sorry to get your hopes up - I realise this post is really only useful for German folks who purchase/receive the magazine...

Perhaps someone will post the MP3s?
(not that I would condone doing so, of course...)

Cheers,
James

James, would you care to share their conclusions?

Thanks, James.

That Electro 3 is looking more tempting all the time. And then again, maybe the CP50 will be worth the wait.

Yes, I have my eyes on a CP5/CP50 also, although I doubt I'd be terribly popular around here if I did eventually decide to splash out though...

Did you hold out for the CP-50? I'm torn between the Nord Electro 3 (73) and the CP-50. As a primary piano/keyboard I'm hesitating on the Nord due to its 73 key limitation. But the sounds are phenominal! The CP-50 has some great sounds, perhaps not as authentic sounding as the Nord, plus it has 88 keys. If I found a used Nord Stage 88 at a decent price it would be a no brainer. 3hearts

There are no stores in my area that currently have the Nord Piano but one place I called up said they expect a shipment of a few in the near future. I'm definitely interested in one. I love the sounds from their boards! Its basically a Nord Stage 88 with the synth and organ stuff stripped out, right? They kept what I really want, the accoustic pianos and vintage pianos. smile
Do you know what the US price is?

Yes, I believe you are correct - a stage piano with the emphasis on acoustic and electric pianos (great concept!), however I am afraid I have no idea of pricing or availability in the US.

Checked out eBay and from what I can tell the Nord Piano seems to sell for around $2500.00 or so. It would only be slightly higher in Canadian dollars. I do like the CP-50 also plus it is several hundred dollars cheaper! It seems to be a natural upgrade to the CP-33. A few more sounds plus improved polyphony (128).

If I was in the market for a new stage piano, I have to say the Nord Piano would be pretty high-up on my list. Clavia's instruments are a little expensive, but the fantastic build quality and excellent support through free updates / downloadable sample sets etc. is surely worth every penny.
