Hi everybody,
I have been reading for a long time on this forum, but this is the first time I'm writing. I have a problem. My Hamburg O has a very light touch, but not in that acceptable way that makes it just a bit too easy to play. Instead, It feels uncontrollable, and doesn't give me good practice time. Of course, would I just keep practicing anyway, I get accustomed somehow, but than I cannot really play other heavier, better regulated pianos.
I have hired a technician, a well reputed one too, to regulate it, but instead, he voiced it, and afterwards it felt even lighter. In frustration, I started to read about this, and now after two months daily research on the net, and many books, including Reblitz.
I have taken out actions out of pianos many times in my life, out of curiosity, but this time, I wanted to see what's inside my Steinway.
Now, after five months from the time of the ''regulation'', and a total of 4 hours of playing, I found a distance of 5 mm from the string to the hammer (measured in the middle of the piano) many hammers sitting on the rest cushion, and the jacks were aligned to the nuckle so that it has to go backwards, away from the hammer at least 0.5mm. The line of the hammers was not too straight either. Probably there is other stuff, if i'd know what to look for. The whippens have an assisting spring on the back. I wonder if taking out all those springs would give it heavier touch.
I have in mind to learn to regulate it myself, and I will. Is it possible to find some help, like answers to some questions? I will not write more for now, to see what reactions I get. Thanks!

ionbaciu, the best place for a query like that is the Piano Forum, or perhaps the Piano Technicians' Forum. Not saying that none of us know anything about what you ask but the piano techs are the best ones to answer you. smile

Thanks, my mistake, I thought I was posting on the technicians forum, but I can see what happened. I will for sure come back another time with questions that belong here. Thanks again.
