Just when you think Casio has gotten something right, you learn they have done something dumb in the name of saving a few pennies.
I was on the Casio website reading the online manual for the Privia PX-830. Actually comparing the differences between the 800 & 830. On page E-37 of the PX-830 manual is a caution that causes one to shake to their head & moan "what were they thinking, or not".
It reads in part: MAGNETISM CAUTION. AVOID PLACING CREDIT CARD, CASH CARD, PRE-PAID CARD OR ANY OTHER MAGNETIC CARD ON THE ILLUSTRATED LOCATIONS. (the caps are mine) The PX-830 has built-in magnets, in 4 different locations on the keyboard top that can damage cards which have a magnetic strip located any where on them. From the illustration, it appears that 2 of the magnets are used to hold the music rack down when the top/dust cover is open; plus 2 other magnets are used to hold the spacer in place than the top is closed. It seems the spacer must be used, because not using it could cause the top/dust cover to, as Casio says, "bow under its own weight".
So much for new, improved, etc. The Bean Counters win again.

I'd always avoid placing magnet-sensitive items close to something that contains speakers, anyway. It's likely that speaker magnets are far more powerful than the others mentioned in the PX-830 manual.

Darn... I guess I will have to find another place to keep my credit cards. Ugh...

You really had to be careful around magnetic sources! Lawrence

I'll keep my credit cards far from the PX 830 and will continue to enjoy its excellent sounds and features.
