I'm moving to Anaheim, CA and looking for a piano teacher. I've always preferred teachers who work out of their home over those working at a music store.

Does anybody know any good websites or other resources that I could use to find a teacher. I was thinking that there could be a site out there where people rate local teachers, but I'm probably dreaming.

Thanks!

1) Learning Musician 2) Lesson Portal 3) Click for Lessons are 3 of several music teaching directories that you enter your instrument and zip code into, and profiles, photos, info comes up about the teachers. Some even have maps, or distance calculated. Search on "piano lessons" or "piano teachers" etc. for other sites. This is a helpful to service to teachers and parents and students, more people should know about it's availability. Happy searching!

Hi - in addition to Betty's suggestions, you might try the MTNA website for certified teachers, or email Guild at ngpt@pianoguild.com and ask for a listing of teachers/certified teachers in your new zip code.

Another way is to go to the local music store and ask if they have a listing of teachers.

When you and the teacher are interviewing, you should carefully discuss your objectives with the teacher, and be inquisitive.

As for a site which rates teachers, you'll probably not find one. It's almost impossible for parents to judge one teacher against another, and of course, there are slander issues if you are not careful. However, you can ask parents/students which teachers have the best reputations, and probably get a decent list of potential teachers.

Good luck.

John

Anaheim is in California, you can use

to find a teacher near your zip code.
Or go to google, type in piano lesson, your city name and you will find some

Another website is Getlessonsnow.com. You might also find a teacher there, or suggestions of teachers.

But the original request is from 2007, so one presumes the OP has well and truly found someone by now! smile
