Having had the privelage to play my new YC platinum edition (YP-208)for a few weeks now I am surprised at how few people on this forum discuss YC.
While I am aware that the YC's of the past were inferior in many ways, the instruments they are producing today are totally different. And, I have found this to be true of many manufacturers. After all, who would want an Estonia built in the 90's?
I can truly say that Larry Fine was right on when he put the new YC's in the same class as a Kawai RX or Yamaha C series. If you are shopping, I encourage you to try a platinum series YC. I am loving mine! The tone and color that I get from the bass and tenor regions is awesome. The treble is clear and defined without the brightness of other Asian instruments.

I had read this earlier and had paid little attention to it. Just someone who's in love with their new piano. I returned a bit later to find your note.

At first I was going to say that you're way too sensitive (as are many in this forum) with regard to the "threat" posed by the anonymous shill. I tend to feel that people who frequent this site and the forums should be grown up enough to be responsible for how they receive new information and how they make decisions based on the information they have in hand.

However, re-reading it, I suspect you are correct. Otherwise I don't care.

Best regards,

I wear socks. Of course as the weather warms up I may go to sandals, at which point I don't wear socks.

I am not connected to anyone, other than liking my new piano. And, seeing that you have M&H I will say that I played a BB and fell in love with it, but it was outside my price range. Perhaps someday. The BB had the best sounding bass I had played on any grand. Now, if only I can find a CC to play!

I'm fairly new here but I quickly learned that there is a heck of a lot of unjustified snarkiness here.
I just learned to ignore it.

An interesting choice of terms, but, all-in-all, not far from the truth. There are many here who view the anonymous shill as somehow a threat to purity and light and life & limb. They will do "well" with "Dear Leader's" march to socialism and cradle-to-grave government protection as opposed to individual responsibility.

Best regards,

I find the PW forums quite interesting, entertaining and educational, in spite of an occasional sock or troll or whatever.... I honesty don’t think that kind of thing happens on the forum all that much and is not the case in this thread either.

I learned a long time ago when we read something we need eat the meat and discard the bone. Okay, I apologize to all the vegetarians for that comment, but it was a metaphor! grin How about “take it with a grain of salt”. I was told by another forum member not long ago to stop reading between the lines, so I can’t use that one. grin

Take care,

Rick

Back to Craig's original post.

As a prior owner of a 2002 Weber WSG 57 (built by Young Chang) I also have respect for certain Young Chang products. I agree with Larry Fine's assessment of the Young Chang Platinum series - and wonder why the new Young Changs aren't discussed more frequently on the Forums.

Hmmmmm,

nwpiano's profile includes an email address, but a quick people search at the domain for the obvious name yields no match found.

Why are there so many people threatend when someone compliments a certain piano. Really, that's all you got to do?
It's like everyone's on the defense. Makes you want to stop.

I think this is a very fair comment and I happen to agree with it.

Years ago we were Young Chang dealers which at that time included the "Pramberger Platinum line of pianos".

We quickly realized how difficult it was to sell this excellent piano - Young Chang was haunted by a less than spectacular past and its reputation was basically in the dumps.

The other thing we found very confusing was the many different lines of pianos Young Chang produced, including "Gold series" and "Signature series" pianos.

Young Cang are very nice pianos today but IMHO the more "lines" a maker offers - the more confusion will coninue.

IMO it's easier for consumers when manufacturers have B and C lines a la Bluthner. Del has posted that he's trying to differentiate the tones of the YC's and Webers, so that may also help YC.

I agree with you Norbert about offering too many lines. I would guess they are just trying to cover more price points for their dealers. So when are you going to have the 7'4" Estonia?!!!!!!!

As an answer to the OP's real question, the major reason not much has been posted here recently on YC is that they were, and to some ectent still are in transition.

They are introducing new models and have even more in the pipeline. They are also selling through older stock to make room for the new, upgraded designs. There have been staff changes as well [Larry Fresch, a VERY well respected industry pro joined them recently.]

As more of the new line flow through to dealer showrooms and are evaluated by shoppers I'm sure we'll hear about it on Piano World.

In fact, we may be sorry we asked!!!!
