DISTANT WORLDS, Music from FINAL FANTASY

The National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Arnie Roth

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts

Friday, July 30, 2010 at 8:30 PM

Ticket prices: $20-$52

---------------------------------------------------------------

We've heard selections from this here in the Recitals and Piano Bars, so there seems to be some interest among a certain segment of the PW membership.

Here is Wolf Trap's brochure description:

Commemorating the 20th anniversary of FINAL FANTASY, this spectacular concert will be enhanced by state-of-the-art video and art stills shown on massive screens in-house and on the lawn, highlighting the game's most memorable sequences.

------------------------------------------------------------

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts (the only such National Park in the country) is located in northern Virginia at Vienna, which is just south of the Potomac River and fairly close to Wash., D.C. It's a beautiful venue (my wife & I have attended a number of concerts there) on spacious, beautifully landscaped grounds. Seating is either inside (2 levels) or outside on the lawn in the back with a clear view of the stage (blankets and picnic fair are encouraged).

Concerts are presented here almost every night of the week from May thru September featuring many different artists representing just about every genre of music. So, even if you're not particularly interested in "Final Fantasy" you may find much else to be excited about. Hope you're not too far away.

Thought you might be interested,

JF

Wish I lived nearer. That would definitely be a show I'd go to. Are you going, JF? If so, post a review afterward. I'd love to hear how it went.

Those who don't live near could - given enough available time and "recreational funding" - make a mini-vacation out of this by staying a couple of nights nearby, seeing the show, and then seeing some of the sites in D.C. the next day, as an example.

No, I'm not going - I like some of the music I've heard here in the forums, but I'm totally out of the loop with regard to the game and would not fully appreciate the experience (or get my money's worth). The show called "An Evening with Idina Menzel & Marvin Hamlisch" is more my speed. She is the star of the popular Broadway musical "Wicked" and he is, of course, the renowned composer and pianist, and he'll also be conducting the National Symphony Orchestra.
