I don't know if many people will know this piece but i'm just about finished learning the piano part and im having a real problem. I recently heard a recording of this piece and the semiquaver passage from bars 5-10 should be fairly fast but very legato. Try as i might, i just can't get it at the right spead and play it as smoothly as it should be played. Anybody got any ideas? Also, how do you play the Cmaj arpeggio up the keyboard as fast as the piece requires? If anyone has any experience of this piece i would very, very much apreciate their input. Thanx. x

Try it slowly and work up to speed.
Are you playing it with a quartet, or just learning it? If you are just learning it, you might find another pianist and play it as the sonata. Then you don't have to worry about dynamics.
The real difficulty comes in the scherzo. The repeated notes should sound like a machine gun. Even good pianists have trouble with that.
The best recording is still the first one, with Harold Bauer and the Flonzaley Quartet, despite the ancient sound. The playing is wonderful!

Thanx BDB. I'm not playing it with aquartet, no. I've only got one friend who plays the piano seriously and when i showed it to him he laughed (in a nice way) and told me i was braver than him so i doubt he'd be a willing partner. I might try and persuade him though! I'll look out for that recording, too. The one i heard was by the Karadar Bertoldi Ensemble but apparently Richter did an incredible recording of it aswell. x

It's not a case of remembering. Look at the dates. You're obviously going back into the archives to dig up some of these. What's the point?

I never look at dates, just content, so i'll have to change my totally spontanuous reactons to something more wary?

thx a 1.000.0000, how can that old stuff suddenly reappear? Did you inadvertently change your preferences to show threads in reverse order (oldest to newest) instead of newest to oldest? That would account for old threads showing up and would explain why you are answering them. Regards,
