In commemoration of Robert Schumann's bi-centennial I am proud to announce an on-line recital of selections from Schumann's piano music. Over the past few months forum members have signed up for, and worked on, various pieces from all the stages of Schumann's output. The pieces and participants are listed below.

I would like to ask people to start submitting their files using our own Mr Mati's software. The code is still fairly preliminary so bear with us. Should you encounter any difficulties please send 'mati' a PM (private message - click on 'My Stuff' at the head of this page); or contact him by email at mati@maticomp.net

The link below will take you to mati's website and will step you through the process of submission. It is easy and self-explanatory.

Recital Submission Webpage

Here is a link to some general help for recording yourself on the piano, and the use of a popular digital recorder called the Zoom H4 (they also make an H2):

Yeah. The codebase is young and hasn't been tested thoroughly. Known issues may include:

- Progress bar hanging at 100% (if that happens, do not worry - the upload most probably went through just fine). Both in the e-mail you receive and at the upload page there is a link to preview your submission after uploading, so you can check if everything went fine.

- Complete crash if using certain versions of Safari on MacOS X - one of my friends encountered a complete crash once and coulnd't make it happen again, but we know this is possible. In this case - upload also went ok. You can use a link from e-mail to check and listen.

If anything suspicious happens and you are not sure if your submission is ok, please feel free to contact me anytime.

I will be monitoring these threads and my mailbox constantly.

Thanks a lot for entrusting the technical side to me and my sincere apologies everything happened so late I wasn't even able to crash test it thouroughly frown

Best wishes!
M.

I just put all five of mine up with no problems. I think three of them went to 100% but never got the green OK. It didn't matter as they appear to have uploaded fine. It's a great program Mati! Many thanks.

Yup, I noticed. I've been testing this !@#$%^& error with my friends for a while and I think I found the reason for the green OK not coming up and it should be 'right now. It was a Mac-specific problem.

All your recordings are fine Peyton, thanks!

Best of luck everyone! This is going to be fantastic!

Schubertian, I don't have the 82/7 ready and I'm not comfortable trying to pull a last-minute like for the previous Chopin e-cital.

Hoping for a large and soulful tribute to this intelligent - and fun! - composer, so influential in classical piano.

This will be a close call... when I asked my teacher to help me refresh my piece, she said it was all fine a year and a half ago but...
Now, I have new fingering, new touch, new everything with a week to go; it appears the new improved me can't submit last year's version; not good enough... Oh well, wish me luck, hard work should do the rest. help

Cheers

The program looks to be very well done, Mati. Nice work, my friend! thumb

I empathize with your frustrations on platform-specific idiosyncrasies. This type of thing, in fact, is why I've had so little practice time lately! smirk

I hope there is good participation for this. Robert only has one 200th Birthday.

Schumann's June 8 is my birthday, too!

So many great Schumann pieces slated. Got mine uploaded without a hitch - thanks Schubertian and Mati!

Look forward to hearing everyone's playing.

Glen

All, you are not going to be graded on this - it is supposed to be for fun - don't worry - it is not as if you efforts are going to be broadcast for all the world to hear, where anyone and everyone can pick apart your fumbling, clumsy interpretations - oh, wait - I guess it is - actually

Mati,
Thank you so much for making it so easy to be a part of this recital. 3hearts I just uploaded my Schumann piece with not difficulty. I always forget how to get the file off the chip. So with a little help from my better half, we then get file thumb onto Audacity. Thanks also to Schubertain for putting this recital together. 3hearts
Thanks again

Happy Birthday Glen!

To all,

You are cordially invited after or during your listen of what looks to be a splendid e-cital to post comments on our prototype Robert Schumann bash message board dedicated to Robert Schumann. It's not much, but it is the least I can do since I did not contribute a piece. It will only be active for a day or two because, like this recital, anything goes and there are NO usernames or passwords. shocked

Tell your thoughts about the man, his work, or just razz one another! laugh Have fun!

Thank you so much Schubertian and Mati! You have our deep admiration and gratitude for putting this together! thumb
