Hello,

I'm choosing between Kawai CN 23 and Roland F110.
For me what the Kawai surpasses the Roland is its Rosewood finish. I really like Rosewood color.
As for Roland, I'm impressed by its function. The 3-track recording, the sound sample and so on. But I always see people criticizing its key touch.

If I don't listen too carefully, I don't think I could distinguish the sound between them.

so I don't know....which one should I choose?

Thanks! and sorry for my english

What about the touch of both?........Roland F110 feels to me - sorry for Roland - as a kind of toy piano......

In my opinion the Kawai's are more 'piano'.

For the rest a question of taste.

Best regards,
Johan B

The CN23 has a new key action from Kawai called Responsive Hammer Action, with an Ivory touch. I have played this and found it heavyish but very responsive, actually a real delight. I played it on a CN33 which has some touch or velocity options in the settings and I don't know if this is the same for the CN23.

spanishbuddha, both the CN33 and CN23 feature adjustable touch curve settings - six touch on the CN33 and four types on the CN23.

Kind regards,
James

Thanks Johan, Spanishbuddha, and Kawai James.

Ok, so the review from myself.

I played both Roland F110 and Kawai CN23 today in a shop in town. The answer is clear. I will go for Kawai CN23. The keys are FAR better. The design, is just plain beautiful. The overall look (the wood, the finish, the shape) gives much better feel than the Roland F110.

The sound....well, I used headphone when playing it. I love the sound of the Kawai. It's more natural and closer to an acoustic piano. One day before, I tried Yamaha CLP 320 and I liked its sound as well (and the keys) but it costs 100 euro more and is a little bit heavier than the Kawai CN23.

My another concern is about the low sound area on the piano (not sure if it's called like this but you know what I mean, the bass part...). DPs have a common drawback that this area often doesn't sound very natural or deep/heavy/yet clear enough in comparison to an acoustic piano. I tried several DPs with price up to 9000 euro. I found that none of them satisfies me in this aspect. Often when you play a chord in the bass area, the sound gets all messed up and you can't tell what it is.
But after trying these two models today, I'm glad to say that Kawai CN23 is better in this aspect than the Roland F110.

Over.

all the best and have a nice weekend everyone. smile

spanishbuddha, I received confirmation from one of the engineering chaps regarding the different touch settings of the CN23/CN33:

- 'Light1' on the CN33 is the same as 'Light' on the CN23.
- 'Heavy1' on the CN33 is the same as 'Heavy' on the CN23.

Cheers,
James

Thanks James. Heavy1 on the CN33 was the touch I preferred, but of course that's quite a personal thing for a user. Although, I saw on another thread a user recommendation for the CA63 to select (one of)the heavy touch setting(s).
