Im new here, I just signed up because I need some help.

I recently married a lovely girl who plays piano and she was teaching me some things. She was in the other room and as I was practicing the piano made a loud buzzing noise. I shut it off and then back on, however there is about 8 keys that dont work. Its silent.

My wife is heart broken. I was wondering if the manufacture would fix it? She bought it used at a garage sale a few years ago. Is this piano junk? or is there a way to fix it? I thought about taking it apart myself to see if I can find some loose wires or something. Is this recommended?

its a Valdesta GX-5

Thanks for any help!

Hmmm...I'm not sure if that's marketed any more? Or who the OEM was anyway. If you have that info call their support line.

If it was me I'd take a peek inside, look for obvious things like you suggested, but also dry joints, the keybed, evidence of leaky/blown caps, If you have some electronic experience trace back from the missing octave. etc.

After that I'd look at it as an opportunity to really impress my new wife with a brand new DP with most likely better sound and action, price range from $500 to let's say $3000 but of course you can go higher. Perfectly good and excellent value DP's from 500-1500 are around with weighted and graded hammer action, good piano sounds and other useful sounds too.

Check other threads that typically go "Need help...", "Looking for new DP..." and so on. You'll be pushed towards Yamaha's, Roland's, Casio's, Kawai's but there are other out there too.
