From page 44 of the owner's manual:

The CA93/CA63 digital piano does not contain the full General MIDI/GM2 sound bank selection. Consequently, some SMF song file may not be reproduced entirely accurately when played through the instrument.

What does this mean? What bank selection does the CA63 contain exactly?

Thanks

Liverpool, the GM (General MIDI) specification references 128 different sounds (doubled to 256 for GM2), however the CA93 and CA63 only feature 80 and 60 sounds respectively (the full list is printed on pp.83). Therefore if a GM or GM2 MIDI file requires a specific instrument that is unavailable on the CA93/CA63, the song may sound a little different when played back.

I hope that answer's your question.

Cheers,
James

So you are saying that the instruments in General MIDI list are mapped into the internal sounds of the piano (p. 83) and that, for instance, an acoustic grand piano sounds by means of the samples of Kawai's Concert Grand, are you?

Yes, the GM instruments should be mapped correctly for sounds that exist within the CA93 or CA63.

Common sounds such as GM 'Acoustic Grand Piano' will be mapped to the CA's 'Concert Grand' sound, however slightly less common sounds such as GM 'Tango Accordion' will be mapped to another sound.

Cheers,
James
