Hello all,

I am looking to offer a good piano recording experience in my studio. An acoustic piano is out of my price range and I lack a nice room to put in in anyways, so this leaves me with digital pianos and software based pianos.

I have been looking at a Yamaha Clavinova CLP340 and am wondering if anyone has experience using this unit or a similar model? It plays really well from what I can tell (I am not piano player though), the synthetic ivory keys feel much nicer than my current midi controller. It seems like a pianist would enjoy the feel of the Clavinova much more than a midi controller but I am not sure how much of a difference it will make. I also wonder if the sound from the Clavinova, which does sound great is going to offer me anything I can't get with software sounds.

Any input you have is greatly appreciated!

Could be great to play, but not great to record. An informed listener would tell quite easily that the recording is of a digital piano...there are some tell-tale giveaways to the sound of most DPs. Have you considered a Roland RD-700GXF (note it must be the "F" version)? Also has synthetic ivory keys and a sound engine that would fool almost any listener. Pros would probably appreciate some of the other features too...the Clavinova range is really for the home.

Good luck,

Thank you very much for the reply Steve. I was wondering how much of the price of the Clavinova was going into the speakers and structure. The Roland you mentioned looks really nice and is in the same price range.
