Anyone hear LL's TV performance of this piece last night at one of the 4th of July celebrations(probably the one in Washington, DC)?

Instead of playing the Horowitz transcription, which I'm sure he could handle, he played his own version which seemed far less effective and easier sounding. He also decided there should be a huge accelerando near the end where the theme ended up being played presto. I found it very disappointing.

No, I missed it .... came in later. I'm not surprised, though. I find most of his 'originality' to be over-the-top and quite disappointing. I heard a recording of his Rach G minor prelude from the Proms a while back and thought it was an exercise in narcissism. On the other hand, I have heard him play in person here in Virginia. He showed he is quite capable of beautiful, nuanced musicianship. The showboat is at war with the serious pianist. Who knows how that will turn out. Perhaps he may become a mature musician at some point.
