I got RD700GX (thanks for suggestion:)) yesterday

and I am trying to connect this to my computer..

I downloaded the driver (UA-101) and installed it

but my computer keeps saying that it couldnt find the driver

so I read instruction, it says..

9. Use a USB cable to connect the UA-101 to your computer, then turn on the UA-101.

question is.. how to turn on UA-101..??
what is UA-101..? is that something I can turn on and off..??

I dont think my computer will ever find the driver..

I am using vista 64 btw..

well.. is there any way I can record the internal sound of RD700GX on my computer ? without installing...
Please help me !!!

I'm not sure where your reading that instructional info, but I just installed the driver(I think I downloaded the newest driver of Roland's site, instead of using the CD that came with the GX), the connected the usb cable from the GX to a USB port on the computer, then launch my DAW, and go into midi devices drop down menue, and select the GX as my midi IN and midi OUT device.

I think I had to switch off the "local off' setting on the keyboard, so it wouldn't play ghost notes. I'm sorry, but I don't have it all in front of me now, and I'm just trying to relay this to you from memory.

I'm not sure what the " UA-101" thing is though, as I never came across that. I hope this helps out a bit.

UA-101 is an USB sound interface made by Roland/Edirol.
This has nothing to do with the RD700GX and is not needed.

If the RD700 has a compatible USB MIDI implementation you would not need even a driver.

If you just want to record the sound, then this is nothing different from recording any other sound source like a CD player or Radio. You would need a recording capable sound interface and a stereo cable. No USB needed.

If you can afford it, by a dedicated handheld recorder. These are below 200,- nowadays and you avoid all computer problems and Audio problems like ground loops and else.

BTW, doesnt the RD 700GX have the possibility to record a WAV file to an USB stick directly? In this case you would need nothing than a cheap USB stick.

HTH,

Peter

hpeterh ----

You mentioned a dedicated handheld recorder. I'm thinking of going that route. Do you have any suggestions on a brand name/model that sounds decent?

I myself use an iAudio MP3 player.
This has an inbuilt hardisk and can record 16 Bit MP3 only.
At the highest sampling rate however I am perfectly happy with this.

I am recording directly from the headphone output of my piano. No audible noise and no audible distortion or quality loss in sound against the original.

This is a rather old model.

If you get a dedicated recorder, then any model from a recognized brand could do the same or better. These can record in 24 Bit uncompressed WAV quality. I believe there is no audible improvement for that, but if you decide to postprocess the sound it will be better.

These recorders also have inbuilt microphones and some of them are good enough to make impressive recordings from acoustic pianos.

I know, a lot of people use "Zoom" recorders.
Maybe in the forums for acoustic pianos you can get the best advise or maybe audio examples.
