They're both very difficult. For the op 25 no 6... its absolutely INTEGRAL that you get a good fingering that will work at speed. These fingerings might not be very obvious, as they can involve sliding the thumb from one key to another. Does your edition have fingerings indicated?

Also, don't try to build speed quickly, it will come.... eventually, but you cannot rush it.

Maybe you should learn one at a time, but it's up to you... smile

Yes, I have Cortot edition and there is MANY fingering, three works for me, so I choose one and try to learn it. Speed is the hardest on that piece...
I´m crazy about Chopin etudes, so I learn two now and I played 7 others smile

That's good! The more Chopin etudes, the better. smile

I'm working on 25/10 and 25/12. And after those two, I'm going to tackle 10/2! Wish me luck... laugh

I am sure you don't have much problem with them, but good luck!!!

I am doing 10/8 and 25/6 as well. I played 10/8 when I was younger so that shouldn't be a problem. For 25/6, I can get up to about 128-130 bpm, but I am hitting a thick and tall brick wall. Fingering for some of the descending thirds are quite tricky.

Wish me luck too ... laugh

I'm working on 10/3 right now... speed not an issue - but trying to get the voicing right while stretching to reach the notes - that my brick wall at the moment.

Good luck everyone!

I'm also working on Op.10 No.3 For me the outer parts are easy since my technique for creating a singing tone is quite established. The middle sections are slowly coming together. A couple more days and it should have it under my fingers. Then I'll have a go at Op.10 No.2.

I'll mention that I've been studying Op.10 No.1 for maybe a year or two, and just now it seems I might be able to give a satisfactory performance. So be prepared to tough it out even if it takes your hands reforming to the etude.

I actually have the music for 25/6 and looked at it once... Right now, I just practice the thirds trill back and forth to try to get it faster. The scales don't bother me as much as the trills. I have really weird fingers when it comes to thirds trills. frown

good luck to all who suffer with Chopin etudes :-D
I have small hands and some parts in 10-8 make me trouble. And 25-6 is really challenging, but not impossible. I found 9-years old boy playing it on youtube!! OMG!

I can't tell if your being complementary or sarcastic, although I'm guessing the latter. I thought his 11 year pld performance was terrific for a pianist of any age and his Van Cliburn Competition performances were also sensational.

Yes, I was being serious. You, pianoloverus should not judge a person by one forum argument. Zhang's performance of the etudes are perfect even if lacking in personalty, but with Chopin Etudes I'd rather hear perfect than Cortot originality with strained technique.

See, I can give credit where it's due even if I'm not jumping out of my seat.

Since, if I remember correctly, you had spoken quite negatively about Zhang previously, I thought you were being sarcastic. My apologies.

OTOH it does seem it harsh to talk about an 11 year old's performance as lacking in personality(even I thought it was true). Many people think Cortot's technique was terrific and that his famous wrong notes on recordings were caused mainly by lack of practicing due to his numerous responsibilites.

Am I correct in remembering you are 15 years old and do not presently take lessona or am Iconfusing you with someone else?

pianoloverus, I know what you are referring to, but I think MikeN was referring to another PERSON (in the Juilliard thread?)... I don't think MikeN is actually 15 years old without a teacher.

Back on topic: Chopin's Etudes are great concert pieces and explore musicality wonderfully, but I don't think people should be worried if they're not played as deep as, say, the 4th Ballade (although it takes a very musical mind to do 10/3 well, and to make the etudes not sound robotic in general).

I didn't think Zhang made the etudes sound robotic in that video of him being 11 years old.
