Hehe, I have heard the WTC called the Old Testament and Beethoven's Sonatas the New Testament of piano.

Oh, here's another one!

The complete Scarlatti Sonatas, over however long a time period it takes to complete them in one hour and a half concert every night (45 minutes of playing, intermission, 45 minutes of playing).

It certainly belittles Horowitz's program of five of them back to back doesn't it.

I think this has been done with complete beethoven sonatas. Unless I am mis-remembering an australian pianist performed and/or recorded complete beethoven sonatas last year in melbourne. And definitely someone performed complete beethoven sonatas at adelaide festival in 2000 - but I wasn't there (wasn't playing piano then) and don't remember who the pianist was - anyone remember these?

It would be tiring!

Composers manufacture a product that is universally deemed superfluous—at least until their music enters public consciousness, at which point people begin to say that they could not live without it.

I know that the sonata have been cycled multiple times, I just couldn't remember the required time to realistically play such a set. Sure it would be tiring but that while I said devout Christians.

The list I have for the Adelaide program begins March 8 and ends March 19 in year 2000. So that leaves some time for eating and sleeping (outside the church of course wink )
On sunday 12th the pianist played sonatas 11 12 13 and 14 at 2pm, then played 15 16 17 18 at 8pm. The concert series had all sonatas in order it appears.

So it could be fitted into a week. Thanks, shows my lack of expertise in Beethoven.
