Well, being delivered tomorrow - but it counts I've had new guitar days (several of them), new bass days (several of those too), and I just came from buying my new (used) piano I decided to go the acoustic route rather than digital. I just think the sounds is a bit more "pure" (IMHO of course) - YMMV. Bought a Henry F. Miller - the phone pics I have don't do it justice so I'll wait to post up some pics. It sounds great - has a fairly bright tone to it and lite action. Also bought "Alfred's Self Teaching Adult Piano Course". I am really excited to sit down and start down the piano path.

Congrats!
I think a large majority who start learning piano usually has a dream song they'd like to master one day. Was there a song in particular that inspired you to want to learn to play?

Just lovely. It's amazing, and a little sad, what you can get for under $500 these days. I hope you enjoy your new piano for many years.

thanks everybody - yea, it was a great deal. I mean, it's not the best piano in the world but for a beginner it'll do for a long time to come. Bought it from a guy that was selling new/used pianos out of his house for 25 year and he just recently decided to close his doors. He is cleaning out his remaining inventory and this was one of 'em. Very satisfied, and glad to be starting the Alfred's book like so many on this board have done

Looks great! We look forward to a video or performance.

Alas, I'm stuck with a digital again, going to rent a practice room for an occasional acoustic binge.

From what progrmr is saying, his total price was just $365. Also, his looks likes a Spinet style piano. @Rui, are you back in Asia again?

It is a Spinet piano. Only issue I've found with it so far is that there's 5 keys that don't stop ringing when the key is released.
Up to page 29 on my Alfred's book - have all the timing down as I finished a bass method book earlier this year when I was playing bass. Unfortunately I have forgotten the bass clef and never learned the treble clef so that will be where the biggest challenge will be for me. But I practice everyday and I know that if I put my mind to it, it'll come.
So much easier to "see" where the notes are on the keyboard compared to guitar. I feel like I can master the keyboard on this instrument, where I had pretty much given up all hope on the guitar lol.

if it's 5 keys up at the top, that's normal. Actually it's normal for the whole top octave or so.

yea, I posted in the tech forum and on my piano the top 10-15 keys don't have dampers on them. The higher notes that the 5 that ring just don't sustain as long so they sound fine. Glad my piano is good - nothing to do but shine up the pedals and play

What a lovely thought~~~ Enjoy it to its fullest. I cannot describe how gratifying the first 50 or so pages of Alfred's book # 1 were. Congratulations on your very beautiful new piano!!!!!!

...and IMHO, you made the absolute right choice going acoustic (too many advantages to name), and much cheaper than a digital too! Looks great! We look forward to a video or performance. I gotta agree, though I recommend everyone to get both if possible. The digital has some obvious advantages, such as being able to play whenever you want (unless there's a blackout!), and always having a perfectly in tune piano in the house! But acoustic pianos, even if they're not the best ones in the world, always have this certain charm about them that even the fanciest digitals can't replicate. And that makes them a delight to play! Congratulations on your new piano, progrmr, and welcome to piano world!
