While randomly rambling through Dubal's The Art of the Piano I found this quote by Lutoslawski in reference to his own Piano Concerto:

In Chopin's music there are moments which call forth a sensation of flight...and it such an effect of leaving the ground and rising that I tried to bring about."

How do you interpret this phrase "sensation of flight"? Can you think of specific Chopin works or passages that have this feeling? Maybe some of the RH passages in his 4th Scherzo or the second movement of his Sonata No.3?

Good examples!
The 4th Scherzo is a plane, the sonata movement is a whirlybird. smile

Only other example that comes quickly to mind: Prelude #19 (Eb major)

And maybe the 11th etude (with the rolled chords), almost off the ground if not quite. smile

All of those parts where the right hand flies off in delicate arpeggios full of heavy chromaticism feel like flying. Like the 4rth scherzo for sure, those big runs in the FI, one bar at the beginning of his first ballade, "that bar" in the nocturne with "that bar" ( :P), in some of his waltzes.

Maybe the E major section of the Scherzo No.2 or the measures right before the coda of Scherzo No.3(with the arpeggiated figures in the LH).

Last movement of the 2nd sonata is a flight straight to hell, or at least a place that's not of this world. Sheer genius!
