There is a slightly used YPG 625 available locally for $600 with bench and all accessories...or I can get the upgraded version (The 635) for $800 brand new.

Is the upgrade/warranty worth the extra $200?

I've worn out the PSRE 223 I bought to introduce me to keyboard...time to move on to a weighted keyboard. A friend has the 635 and I really like the feel and sound of it.

YPG 625 has only 32 note polyphony, compared to 64 notes for the 635. It's the same as for some of the 61 keys keyboards.

For $600 you can get into a new P85. It's got the same key action and sound ast the YPG. Unless you like all the non-piano features of the YPG.

Have you looked at other brands? At your price point I think Casio is the strongest brand. The PX130 or PX330 may have better kay action thenthe Yamaha. At double your price point I think Yamaha is the stronger brand.

Not saying what to get just that at $600 to $800 range there are some more options, be sure that you've checked them all out.

I second ChrisA's advice. At this price point I'd be looking at Casio PX130 or 330, which is definitely is a three velocity layered piano voice. The other non-piano Casio voices will likely be inferior to the Yamaha however.

If you could spend $1k USD I'd say look at the Yamaha CP33 - no internal speakers, but good keys and better voices.

Or try a used P120 (~$500) or P140 (~$700) if you want good keys and internal speakers. Look on CraigsList.

If you want the YPG635 / DGX630 (the same instruments - different numbers for different types of stores), CostCo.com has it with the furniture style stand, for $749.

Take a look at bhphoto for a really good deal on the YPG-635 including the 3 pedal unit.

I just sold my slightly used YPG 635 for $550, including a bench, the 3 pedal unit, all the software, printed out songbook sheets...it was in perfect condition.

There's a sale (or was recently) at Musician's Friend for the YPG 635 for I believe $699 including a free pedal unit.

$600 is way too much for a $625, I think you can get them new for less than that.

I ended up going with the 635. Our local store made me a pretty good deal.
Thanks for all the input!
