I didn't mean to open the bar that early in the morning, but I logged in to submit my recital and decided to post my monthly bar contribution at the same time.

While I was working on the piece for the recital, I came up with some melody that I like but did not fit in the other piece so I kept it for the bar. I don't know what to name it. So here it is

PS. I am starting to get sick of those chords, so hopefully I will come up with something fresher next time.

That early in the morning? Actually, you're late - the time-honored tradition here is to open the Bar at least a day early

Perhaps Untitled 101 would be a good working title, since you'll no doubt have other untitled works in the future...

I made a recording for the bar myself, but my laptop kinda messed up the sound. I might either place it further away from the piano next time, to see if it gets any better.
If not, I'll record it from my digital piano instead, which seems to work fine.

Anyway, I will at least wait 'till Tuesday, when my acoustic gets tuned. (and voiced, if my technician has time for that before his next appointment)

Again, a VERY nice "untitled" piece, TrueBeginner! Way to start off August and my Sunday morning.

This is a song by Leonard Cohen, probably one of my favorites. It's "Famous Blue Raincoat" and for me is about the epitome of forgiveness and how love and hate can be so intertwined. (Not surprising since it's from his "Love and Hate" album.) some of my famous lines go..

truebiginner, you always seem to come up with the prettiest melodies and this is no exception. A real sweet piece.

Ah truebeginner and Peyton - it's so nice to get to hear a piano bar when there's still a listenable number of entries Yours were great. tb - yours remeinded me of someone, but I can't put my finger on who. Pretty melody , though. Well done. Peyton - it's only been say the last year or so that I even heard of Leonard Cohen - I don't get out much - but you have the perfect style for his stuff, and I love your piano backings. Great piece.

Thanks guys! Yes, I guess you could say it's my own arrangement, no sheet music, just by ear.. Frankly I don't think anyone can top LC singing it on the Love and Hate album.

Back to Bach for me this month. Just nothing else is quite ready for recording.

Bach's Prelude in C Major (from Well Tempered Clavier) was mentioned on the forum recently and I thought it would make a nice "short" piece to work on. My summer substitute teacher agreed but stipulated that I needed to work on a more Baroque interpretation as well as a "modern" one. Well, I'm giving you the modern one because I like it much better. It's a little more introspective - and you can clearly hear what gave Gounod inspiration for his Ave Maria.

Here is a new blues tune I wrote entitled “The Great Pretender”. I really didn’t know what to name the song, but great pretender seemed appropriate. I hope you all enjoy it!

TB - that was a wonderful piece of music and you play it so well. Very sharp.

Peyton - you never cease to amaze! Such a talent you are. How do you do it? Do the lyrics come first, or the melody line?

Andy - BWV846 was my first-ever recital piece and just recently, too. You played it very well. So simple, yet so subtle are the changes throughout. I very much enjoy playing it weekly. Thanks for sharing it!

Rick - holy slamoly!! What fabulous entertainment, musicianship, and fun all wrapped up at once. You were having so much fun playing it, and the lyrics put a smile on anyone's face. Simply Spectacular!

TB, I'm sure I've read about great pieces of music that written that way - pasted together of leftovers that did not fit into previous pieces! For a leftover, that was terrific!

My piece this month is "Freddie Freeloader", by Miles Davis. (Why can't jazz songs have dignified titles, like "Rhapsodic Etude: Theme and Variation in C Sharp Minor" or something along those lines? Even the titles that start out sounding dignified soon turn otherwise, like "Concerto For Cootie".) I was actually thinking about giving this a dignified name and sneaking it into the recital (kind of like the Marx brothers sneaking into a society party!), but I went with another song for the recital. Anyway, this is a basic blues song in F, with one chord being different from the usual blues chord progression.

I am playing the piano, but the drums and bass are provided by a backing track that was provided to me. I am playing from a lead sheet.

Ed - Kind of Blue is one of the few jazz albums I own (probably goes for a lot of people!) and Freddie is probably my favorite track. I loved it!

Elssa - now I feel I'm in warm tropical sunshine, instead of a dull cloudy DC day!
