Some people can mix it up:
More than a catbird hates a cat, Or a criminal hates a clue, Or the Axis hates the United States, That's how much I love you...

Cole Porter wrote a song about this very subject: Let's Not Talk About Love!

What is great is that if you compare a popular song from the 900th century with a song from today, there's really not much difference.

Wow, haha. Jk, I know what you mean. There's this song called "Fair Phyllis", it's not from the 900's, more like the 1500's, but I could totally see somebody coming up with it today, or at least something like it.

You'd hate to have lived in the 19th Century then. Just about every single composer was a Romanticist, writing endlessly about how infatuated they were with some countess or whatever. They didn't call it the Romantic era for nothing.

Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I don't think so. It seems like at least 90% of all songs are about love. Why??? It gets very redundant (and to me, annoying) after a while. Why can't people think of other things to sing about?
Ok, this topic is not really about piano, exactly... Are you thinking of recently the last decade or two or over time in general? Plenty of my favorite songs have nothing to do with love, but a large portion of them are over 10 years old. A lot of newer stuff does sound redundant to me anymore but it may be because I'm listening to so little new stuff anymore. My dad used to say that "guys in the 60s wrote songs about their girlfriends and their cars, now they only write about their girlfriends. What does that tell you about the auto industry?" LOL
