Hey all,

A little OT,

I've recently read a thread on Pianist's Corner where a member has decided to leave PW indefinitely largely because of all the negativity he perceives here.

So it got me thinking and I decided to go back an read a whole lot of my own previous posts.

And I had a pretty big epiphany: Wow! What an arrogant, condescending, competitive, egotistical jerk I can be!

So I'm posting this to apologize. I LOVE PianoWorld and have learned so much from this place and just enjoy hanging out here reading and being engulfed in all things piano-related. For any of you that have ever been offended by or disempowered by any of my contributions here I humble say I'M SORRY. I'd like to make a fresh start here. I want to make contributions of a positive nature. I'll still be honest (sometimes brutally so) but not at the expense of anyone else's feelings. I want to be one of the users who helps this place to be one of the best (if not THE best) place on the net for piano lovers to confer.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Adrean Farrugia

What an honorable thing to admit and write about. Thank you for sharing your feelings and your deep appreciation for Piano World.

Personally I don't remember reading former posts by you, positive or negative. I do get a little annoyed with some of the "beating a dead horse" with the 358th post on a subject that was thoroughly covered by the first dozen posts. But then we don't have to open those long harangues.

Continue to have fun on the forums and encourage others to do the same. Sometimes my time spent here is the real bright spot in my day.

AJF,

Bravo!

I personally never got a negative vibe from you... You were opinionated, but not particularly negative.

I have total respect for this post and I look forward to your positive and helpful future here at PW. smile

Great stuff Adrean!

Today I apologized to my own kids for a screwed up camping trip last year. I put my camper on the block and promised to sell it.

After my apology there was a big roar urging me to keep the darn thing.

I will....

I've never noticed an off post from you Adrean, but I do think that THIS post is representative of how most people who come to PW think and feel.

I have seen a few threads where people have been a little too heavy on the sarcams and insults, but only a few. Overall I think this is one of the more civilized forums I've participated in.

(I do agree on the point that some threads seem to go on and on pointlessly for pages, but heck, if I'm sucker enough to keep reading them, that's my problem!)

Thanks to Frank and to the participants who make this such a great place to come for super information and support!

Hats off to Adrean.

I can't really comment on all of Adrean's posts, because I tend to read (and post) mostly in the technicians' sub-forum. What I can say, is this: generally, PianoWorld is a very civilized forum. The occasional emotional outbreak or bout of sarcasm is well-contained. I really enjoy being here.

Although German is my mother tongue, I regret to say that a German-speaking sister forum is not nearly as civil as PW. Between a bunch of (sometimes naive) opinionated beginners and a bunch of very opinionated, self-satisfied "professionals", there's not much Lebensraum.

Which is, amongst others, why I keep returning to PW. smile

Specifically, I'd like to express my thanks for the open way in which the techs on PW engage with an amateur.

Aw, you're not so bad, Adrean. But ok, you've put a little forgiveness in the bank, for a rainy day.

You've certainly set a good example--- we can embarrass ourselves badly by whacking the SEND key too precipitately, or injure people's feelings all-too-easily. And yes, I've found out the hard way.

I seem to remember some rules for speech... not sure if I have it quite right, but it goes something like: before speaking, ask yourself (1) is it necessary, (2) is it kind, (3) is it the right information, given to the right person, at the right time.

I too have allowed myself to be tested on these forums and have gotten my dander up a time or two. I too have written things here I wish I had not written; however, I think it is natural for us to put up an argument or defend ourselves when we think we’ve been offended or attacked. That does happen on these forums on occasion.

Plus, it is easy to get riled up and real defensive while we are sitting in front of a computer monitor and not looking someone in the eye. Yet, I think a lot of forgiveness and time can heal old wounds in many cases and in some cases not. Once the scars have been created and the harm has been done we can forgive, but our minds are not programmed to forget and the scars of hurt feelings remain.

On the other hand, I have always abhorred a smart a** and hope that I never become one… (Though I can be one at times when provoked grin).

Take care,

Rick

Adrean,

I have never noticed any postings from you that would require an apology, however, since you just reread them I'll not question your judgment. Similarly I don't believe I've posted anything offensive, but that doesn't mean I have the courage to look. It may be human to err on occasion, but it's also human to aspire to be better. I applaud your honesty and your commitment to be better and I also commit myself to being a positive presence here. Thanks for your candor.

Technology gives you that opportunity to say things you really have not thought about but just dictating what the mind is saying, but in person we all would have a chance to apologize. Here you can just sign off.....LOL! Wake up the next day and say, "Wow, did I really say that?"

This place would be pretty boring if those things did not happen. Great place if you ask me...

We all go through it if you have a true passion, that is what I think anyway.

I have learned to respect the experts for sure and put my little two cents when I can...
