When comparing the GH3 and the PHA-III, the PHA-III feels much more robust, the ivory feel and the keys surface have a more realistic feel, like an acoustic grand, I find the GH3 much more plastic and noisy:
Feel and touch:
PHA-III (9 of 10) GH3 (7 of 10)
Material Quality:
PHA-III (8 of 10) GH3 (6 of 10)
Able to play fast repetitions:
PHA-III (9 of 10) GH3 (8 of 10)
Total scores: PHA-III (26 of 30) GH3 (21 of 30)

Which one was softer to the touch, PHAIII or GH3?
Also do you find the keys of the Roland bouncy? This has been mentioned in these forums

The yamaha keys are definately more bouncy, I played them both just the other day, a clp 370 and a hp 307 in the same showroom, just 5 feet apart. The yamaha keys are more like a trampoline they push back up against your fingers, the roland is more natural the way they move up. Overall the roland action wins hands down imo. But just as unquestionably (for me) the yamaha action is much quieter and heavier. Which is a nice touch.

I've been reading other threads about different acoustics having different actions and no 2 acoustics have similar actions.
If thats the truth, then i would anyday prefer a lighter action for better control and fast repetition.

Overall I humbly think that the yamaha dp is given extra credibility because of the name, I think in many ways the roland is better. But not all ways as I mentioned above.

Its really amazing and a Paradox... Acoustic manufacturers are trying to make keys that are lighter to the touch (Kawai Millenium action) and DP's have heavier keys. The earlier acoustic piano keys used to be really heavy. Could we have a list of the companies whose acoustic pianos have light keys and heavy keys.

Also do you find the keys of the Roland bouncy? This has been mentioned in these forums Roland's are lighter by far. The Yamaha keys feel like there must be some thicker grease in there some place There is some smooth kind of friction in the Yamaha keys. I call it damping but I don't know how to describe key action feel. When I was shopping I like the Roland "PHA-II with escapement and Ivory feel" a lot but also liked Yamaha. At the time a Roland with those keys cost $2,500 and I could get a P155 with GH keys for $960. So I have a P155. Today I'm not sure which of the two key actions I like best I do know there are some grand pianos with even stiffer actions then the Yamaha GH. And no, you can not make a list of acoustic bands and their key actions. Every piano, even if the same make and model is different

ChrisA,
When you say the Roland keys felt lighter, did you also happen to feel any 'bouncy effect'?
The P-155 for 960$ is a steal. They have given it their best sound samples (pure CF 4 layers). If only they could add GH3, String Resonance, it would make a good buy for even 1500$.

The PHA-II feels nice and crisp, like a well-maintained grand. (IMO)
