I, as a true Beethoven fan, can REALLY recommend her performance of the Hammerklavier. I was really surprised by it, as I didn't like her Appassionata so much, but her Hammerklavier is amazing, especially the last movement!

Its a website where people can stream a live video feed over the internet for other people to watch for free. She did it a while ago with her daily practice sessions for a week, it was incredibly fascinating to watch.

From her recent, live Ustream practice sessions. Very inspiring to watch her practice.

I agree – Valentina is too fast for me.

I think Irena Koblar has it about right:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLTIH9os9aQ

According to Barry Cooper, Czerny’s earliest metronome marking for this was 152, which BC describes as an apparent aberration. Czerny’s later speeds were 126 and 132.

As an aside, I note that Beethoven shamelessly stole measures 133 – 140 from Rick Wakeman’s "Six Wives of Henry VIII" Catherine Howard track (3:40 on the Koblar vid, and 0:20 and later here). wink

I just cant imagine that being played at 126. I love Irena Koblars version too though.

Czerny was krank in the head, he wanted everything presstissisimo and later changed his mind. Lol at Rick Wakeman btw!

And you are right the Koblar speed is much more the way I like it. She is a good pianist btw!

Recognizing earlier mistakes and correcting them is somehow a problem?

If it was a mistake than no, if you mean playing all of beethoven's work at a presto-prestississimo level, than yes. That man has spread so many lies and untruths about beethoven, there must have been something wrong with him.

No impromptu's unfortunately, though op.142 no.3 is on her channel. Its the Liszt transcriptions of Schwanengesang. Die Taubenpost, Standchen, Kriegers Ahnung and Aufenthalt are particularly worthwhile.

on 10/3: Irena Koblar has it 100% correct in my book - although I did play the second movement a hair slower than she did. At the end of the 4th movement she flashes a tiny smile - very satisfied with herself.

thank you for posting this rachmaninoff - i didn't know he wrote sonatas so this was a lovely introduction.

as far as i know Valentina is already streaming on the 17th while the equipment is being set up, maybe 2-4 pm, though Valentina wrote that they don't really have a schedule for anything ^^ so we don't know when exactly the streaming starts. does anyone know which time zone they're in? probably some american one, GMT/UTC-6 or something?

I first found her 39, 4, it blew me away. And her Hammerklavier is one of the best I have ever heard. This girl absolutely rocks !

I can't wait for the Ustream. Now I have to figure out what Ustream is.
