Lortie, is a phenomenal pianist who never fails to deliver. I had the pleasure of hearing him with the Emperor last year and he was amazing (as always).

I don't know if he really never fails to deliver, but the times I've heard him, he was well worth the price of admission. I've actually turned down free tickets to a concert of the other LL; I wouldn't do that for this LL.

It's curious he isn't more celebrated, since he is so good. But then, I've always wondered that about some others, like Anton Kuerti, Ellisio Wirssaladze, Matti Raekallio, Anne Queffelec, etc. There are quite a few very fine pianists around, but it seems like the fame machine can only deal with a limited number.

Well, he's not ever failed to deliver when I've heard him.

I played Chopin for Louis Lortie last year.... also got to see him play Rachmaninov's last recital programme. He's an interesting artist. Certainly puts his own stamp on things, but not at all in an undesirable way. I recall he was highly imaginative with the sound.
Sadly I don't remember too many details about the masterclass.

Much more interesting Quebecois pianist than Hamelin.
