In the Composer's Lounge (the thread after this one), I've posted a link to a website where you can download 196 pages of my old music, including 14 pieces of ragtime. I'll re-post the link here:

http://gsmonks.webs.com/

There are also many other pieces in a variety of styles, and for most levels of performance.

Hey, free is good! smile

That's a lot of work you've done there! I'm curious though, it appears you have some 'modern' chords in some of the rags such as maj 7s. Would these then be more along the line of Stride Piano rather than rag time?

Nope. Lots of Rags use 7ths and chromaticism. You'll also find Rags that use 9ths and 13ths. I've never encountered an 11th, though.

Besides, it's the syncopation, not the chords, that makes for Ragtime.

Also, Stride uses triplets in the right hand instead of syncopation.

Lots of Stride pianists called their music "Ragtime", which serves to confuse the issue. Ellington's Soda Fountain Rag is an example I like to use because it's Stride, not Ragtime.
