Hello guys.
I'm going on a trip to Rome for a week and will be away from my piano.
Want to still get some kind of progress during that week so was thinking of picking up a music theory book.

Could anyone recommend a good well-rounded and thorough music theory book? Best if it's in actual book format, not one of those thin ones that look like sheet music books.

Ok, to clarify my question a bit. I guess I'm more interested in actually how music is constructed than for example how to read notes. So what I want is a good book more on harmonization theory and such.
It would not hurt if the book also contains historic information, since as I understand it _how_ music is constructed has changed over the years and actually there is really no formula, how to construct music. What we think sounds good changes over the years.

Anyone got a book recommendation matching what I'm looking for?

BirdsAreOff suggested among other books, Harmony and Voice Leading by Edward Alldwell, Carl Schachter, and Allen Cadwallader.
Leaning towards buying that one.

Any other similiar text books I should know about?
