Pardon my ignorance: I'm a born again Newbie to the piano. There are so many wonderful pop songs out there that would sound so phenomenal on the piano, but I just don't have the talent to compose the music, nor are they always available to purchase. I was just wondering if there's such a thing as a software program that can convert the song into piano sheet music. If so, any recos? Are there people out there that do this sort of thing as a service? There are a few songs out there that I'm just DYING to get the sheet music for. (They are actually non-english pop songs). TIA!

If you can get the midi, programs like Cakewalk can convert to sheet music. However, in my experience, it takes some work to get it to a decent form. Many midis have drum, bass, percussion tracks along with a lot of other instruments. You may have to delete some tracks, but save portions of other tracks as they melody may be on multiple tracks. It depends a lot on how "fancy" the midi file.
I have done this, but for very few songs, where I absolutely couldn't find the sheet music. It's too much trouble if you can buy the sheet music, plus it's more honest to pay for the music. If you have one midi, I might do it for you. YOu can PM me.

http://www.sibelius.com/products/audioscore/ultimate.htmlCD & MP3 Transcription AudioScore Ultimate 6 allows you to open a CD track or MP3 file and transcribe it to a score. By using the most intelligent technology available it is possible to convert up to 16 instruments / notes playing at a time into multiple staves, with up to 4 voices per staff. Immediately after transcribing your music, you are able to send it directly to Sibelius or save MusicXML, NIFF and MIDI files for use in most other music programs. Alternatively, allow AudioScore Ultimate 6 to print out a professional quality score for you.

I downloaded the demo and tried it out. It actually seems to work pretty good. You'll need to tweak the final product.

gryphon .... did you download the ultimate version? what type of song did you try, mp3, wav, cd?
I have the Sib program, which has AudioScore Lite. It will only open a wav file.
I opened a fairly simple piano piece (mp3) with Audacity and saved as wav.
Opened in AudioScore Lite, and the output was nothing like the song, could not tell it was the same song .... it did get the song key right, that's about all.
Any info appreciated.

I downloaded AudioScore Ultimate 6 demo and tried it out with an mp3 file. It worked pretty well. But the demo only transcribes 20 seconds of audio, so I couldn't test it out as well as I would have liked. I'm half tempted to break an mp3 up into a bunch of small pieces and feed them in one at a time to see what happens. The piece I tried it out on started out as piano only, then later added strings and such, but with a 20 second limitation it never got to that part, obviously. http://www.neuratron.com/audioscore.htmhttp://www.sibelius.com/products/audioscore/ultimate.htmlAudioScore Lite is pretty limited and its primary use is for inputting music from a microphone. Lite is limited to one single note recognized. Here's a comparison chart between Ultimate and Lite. http://www.sibelius.com/products/audioscore/features.htmlDownload the free demo and try it for yourself.
