We are doing some additonal research on the Weinbach right now, since it is a lesser known brand. I've been doing searches here on that brand in particular. I was a bit surprised to find out that some of the Weinbach grands are Chinese made. Does anyone know if that's true? If so, would that apply to a 2002 Weinbach 190?

No, in 2002 all Weinbachs were made in Czech Republic by and at the Petrof factory.

The short answer is NO. There was a legal tussle over the rights to the Weinbach name three years ago. The former Petrof US distributor (Geneva International) asserted contractual rights to the Weinbach name and began producing Weinbach grands at the DongBei factory in China in 2007. Thaat production ended when Geneva exited the piano biz not long after and Petrof started its own US distribution network.. The actual production of Weinbachs in China was small.

The Weinbach name will not have the same familiarity or cachet as the Petrof name, but that's not because of its brief visit to China. It's because Weinnbach was the plain-Jane version of Petrof. Petrof never marketed it heavily. The Petrof family name,OTOH, is a name with a very long production history.

For many years, and maybe today, Petrof and Weinbach were one and the same in all details.
