Yamaha DGX-630 vs DGX-640

Hey guys,
I'm trying to decide between the two. I played them both, and ironically, the older model (DGX-630) seems to have a richer, deeper, and more realistic piano sound. What do you guys think? Any reasons at all why I should get one over the other besides the cost?
Thanks

One reason they could sound different is that if one piano has placed up against a wall and the other was out in the open. This would be a big difference as the wall will re-enforce the bass sound.
I've never seen a 630 and 640 side by side but the difference in sound could also be do to a change in the internal built-in speakers. Is the sound better of one if you use headphones?
Bring in your own set of high quality (over $100) headphones. This is really the only way to remove variables in the sound from the environment. Almost everyone will recommend you test a DP with headphones

Durden, Because I played them at Best Buy every time I'd visit and really liked the way they sound. Also, I like all the gadgets and accompaniments that come along with them. It's a good package for me.
Chris, No I didn't use any headphones; and yes, the DGX-630 was against the wall, whereas the 640 was not.
Any other responses would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

From what I can see in a quick look at the Yamaha web site, the key advantages of the newer one would be the option for three pedals (instead of just sustain), and that it has more sounds.
When comparing the piano sounds, be sure to check *all* the piano sounds. The default piano sound (preset #1 or whatever) may not be the one you like best.
In this series, the best piano sounds are the ones they name "Live!"
The DGX-630 has two "Live!" piano, Grand and Warm Grand. The DGX-640 adds a third, Pop Grand.
I would expect that the sounds they have in common, like Grand and Warm Grand, should sound the same on both. But if you don't pick the same piano sound on both, they will certainly sound different. Any chance that's what happened?
If you're not drawn to any of the 640's extra sounds and don't care about the extra pedal, then it looks like you might as well get whichever is cheaper.

Chris, ...yes, the DGX-630 was against the wall, whereas the 640 was not.
It's pretty clear from the way the speakers are mounted that Yamaha assumed the user would push the piano up to a wall. That could double the power in the bass but I see so many of these being demo'd in the middle of a huge open space. So if I guessed right it is just because I see it in the stores
