hi,

i heared the p95 has better speakers. sounds warmer in the middle range. but when i look at specs, both have 2x6watt. also i heared that the soundchip is better. now what is true?

"2x6watt" tells you almost nothing about how a speaker will sound. A more informative spec is the speaker diameter but even that is only next to nothing.

The P95 is a very small step away from the P85. Not a lot of difference. I'd buy the P95 if the price is close and the P85 if it saves you a good amount of money. I've seen the P85 steeply discounted.

But both pianos use the "GHS" key action and have only a single velocity layer samples. Compared to the Casios and the low-end Korg the best thing the P85/p95 have is the good reputation and build quality of Yamaha.

Agreed that the 2 x 6 watt doesn't provide much detail.

But it does say one thing quite plainly ... get better speakers because these ones suck.

Does anyone read anymore, or are we really just a nation (world) of TV watchers?

Sorry, my bad. Sometimes I see people willfully using bad punctuation and misspelling words, like text-speak spilling over into everything. As if it's modern and pushing boundaries to purposefully write poorly.

I don't know about the specific keyboards you're interested in, so sorry I can't help there. I do know it's tough to get a keyboard you like, because most music stores don't keep much inventory on the floor anymore. I've been forced to buy online for years. The good thing is you can return what you don't like, but the bad thing is you'll have to pay for shipping.

Cell phones: responsible for lowering everyone's expectations of sound quality to the center of the earth, now doing the same for all text-based interaction.

I have played both the P-95 and P-85, side by side. To me the P-95 sounded tinny, or at least more tinny than the P-85.
I own a P-85 and enjoyed the sound from the speakers until I listened to myself playing through headphone. I could no longer put up with the sound coming out of the 2" X 6" speakers. I now keep a set of Mackie MR8's plugged into my P-85.
I know the P-95 offers the choices of Choir and Jazz Organ that the P-85 does not have.
To me the P-95 is not worth the extra money.

And how do you like the Mackies, bbuckis? The Sweetwater rep talked me out of getting them, in favor of a Yamaha-made monitor pair. But I'm still curious. I've had good luck with Mackie gear in the past. The MSP7's are ok, but I don't know that I'd want a whole 5.1 surround set-up with them.

The Mackie's sound fantastic (to me). I'm not an audiophile. Just happen to stumble into a great deal for the pair.
