I'm learning on a Roland AX-09 which is a keytar. bascially you use the left hand for pitch bends and the right hand for the keys.

Can you recommend good exercises for practicing that will lead to improvisational play?

I'm thinking if I practice scales, chords and arpeggios and some theory that would be a good start.

Shouldn't be an issue with doing just the right hand from exercise books right?

Thanks

I wonder whether an accordion method might be more helpful. It would expect you to be playing one-handed. It might be worth checking to see if your local library has such a thing, or if you can pick one up to experiment with.

More helpful than piano exercise books, I meant.

I think that doing scales & arpeggios & chords is a really good place to start out.

What about Jazz primers, scales and so forth? The obvious thing I guess is Lead Guitar primers and methods. Does it have MIDI? If so get a copy of RealGuitar/RealStrat. Checkout KeytarJeff on YT and have a go at some Hendrix say Voodoo chile....
