Well, it's finally here. No.6. Here are the implements in question for this episode, which could be entitled "Piano Tuning Made Easy":

[Linked Image]

Here is the episode:

Haddorff Postcard No.6 which has part of Scott Joplin's "Solace" as the musical introduction.

And, since it's time to go back to school here in this part of the world, and, since I seem to be going back to school here in this episode as far as piano tuning is concerned, here is the "Back To School Chorus" singing the 1928 song, "Constantinople."

"Constantinople" Words and music by Harry Carlton (London: Lawrence Wright Music Co.; New York: DeSylva, Brown and Hendersen, Inc.), 1928.

The "Back To School Chorus" is:
1st voice: Kailie Powder
2nd voice: Jordan Powder
3rd voice: Celia Strong

The lyrics go like this:

Verse 1:

Mister Noel Knowall was the teacher in a school, giving a lesson one afternoon.
Little Tommy Tompkins was the dunce and what a fool, didn't know which was the sun or moon.
Teacher said to Tommy Tomkins, "Well,
See if you can sing this while you spell."

Chorus:
Con-stan-ti-no-ple! C-O-N-S-T-A-N-T-I-N-O-P-L-E!
Con-stan-ti-no-ple! It's as easy to spell it as saying your A-B-C!
C-O-N-S-T-A-N-T-I-N-O-P-L-E! Show your pluck, now try your luck, and sing it loud with me!
Con-stan-ti-no-ple! C-O-N-S-T-A-N-T-I-N-O-P-L-E!

Verse 2:

You might laugh at Tommy Tompkins 'cause he couldn't spell Constantinople, but wait and see
If there's anyone who thinks that they can do it well, come on a try it along with me,
You can show me just how much you know,
Are you ready everybody? Go!

Chorus

Hope you like it!

--Andy

P.S. If you missed any episodes, or are just coming to this, here are links to the past!:

Haddorff Postcard [No.1] with "Deep Purple"

Haddorff Postcard No.2 with "I Love Her"

Haddorff Postcard No.3 with "Yes, Sir! That's My Baby"

Haddorff Postcard No.4 with "Mistress Murphy's Chowder"

Haddorff Postcard No.5 with "All Alone"

Haddorff - (no postcard) with "He Wipes The Tear From Every Eye" played on the Haddorff

The instructions seem simple enough - but will "Haddy" cooperate??? Stay tuned......

And I thought spelling "Mississippi" was challenging !!!

Hey Andy, that looks like MY tuning hammer!!!!! Have you been sneaking around my house lately? Was that you in my back yard the other night? I'm missing a couple of mutes too! Muhahaaaa!

Seriously though, that is an identical twin to my tuning hammer. Hmmmmmmmm..... I know one thing. Flip it over and it works pretty good as a real hammer too!!! grin

So, everybody wants to get into the act!!! LOL! You guys are FUNNY!!! laugh

Al-mahed, I think Jordan might take exception to your assessment of the chorus, but that's understandable, since his voice is changing Big Time. I think he will be a rich baritone by December! Did you notice his nice tone? Did you notice Kailie's authoritative, confident posture? Did you notice Celia's comedic aspirations?

Carey and CA, It turns out that the character that I explored dramatically for the piano is the true character of the real piano! Bill Bremmer spent four hours today wrestling with Haddie (repairs and tuning), and she was fairly uncooperative! However, Bill got her sounding REALLY NICE! Recordings to come...

Jer, It wasn't me in your backyard, but it coulda bin dose knuckleheads!

BTW, everybody, I replaced the recording of "Constantinople" with an upgraded version that doesn't clip, and, I added some "plate reverb" for that classic classroom sound! grin

Thanks for listening!!!

O.K., CA:

Here's me, scrubbing the bass strings tonight with a wire brush. That's an air cleaner on top of the piano, because so much dust came out of her! 107 years' worth!

I posted more pictures in a separate thread:

More Haddorff Pictures

BTW, gerg, thanks for listening! These characters are truly organic. They come out with their own stuff, that's for sure! I think for the next episode, I may interview Haddie about her experience being tuned. I'd like to know why she wouldn't cooperate!
