I am looking for an interactive software program that will allow me to learn sheet music via my digital piano.
Something like a software typing tutor that displays words and you have to enter them correctly to move on from your keyboard. (but obviously with musical notation and my DP)
I have found one program I thought looks good but not quite what I have in mind. It is called Home Concert Xtreme. I am wondering if anybody else knows of something a little better?
Basically it would display some notes on a clef and wait for the proper notes to be entered and voila...next lesson!!!
Let me know...THX

None of them work. The problem is that all beginners think the hard ofplaying a piano is learning to read notes on a staff and remembering which is E and which is G. Believe me that is the easiest part, by far. And it only takes a few weeks. For almost everyone the problem is not understanding but execution, getting the fingers to move the way you know they should. So software is of little help. Or to say it better, software is no better than a book or set of paper flash cards
That said, there is no end of piano instruction software. Every Apple Mac comes with piano instruction software installed as part of Garage Band. It has animated notes and video of a teacher and you can control the speed while to try to play along.
Not many people will tell you that software is the best way to learn piano but still there is so much software. Why? Because it is marketed to people who don't know how to play the piano.

I can read sheet music, I just want an onscreen prompt to help my reaction time. I want something that will teach me fingering methods so I can look up at the core and play note for note accurately (like home keys in typing) is all.

Hi kungfuthug, I am a beginner and learning piano in different ways like taking my daughters help and using her books, learning from website and using Apple Mac's Garageband, etc., Recently I stumbled upon software called "Synthesia" website( http://www.synthesiagame.com) I downloaded but not yet connected to my piano ( as I am still waiting to be delivered). This software might be that what you are looking for. Give it a try and let me know if that helps. However, as mentioned by ChrisA practice, practice and practice nothing can replace this! Regards John
