Hey, I'm curios about something... lol Jane Austen has a woman of her time, didn't had access to music books, so she copied the pieces she liked to music notebooks(?), are those available somewhere? Or other kind of compilations from the 18th century? thanks

there is a cd that appears to be, but I couldnt find any printed music on amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jane-Austen-Ente...8186&sr=8-2(note, that is amazon.CO.UK) btw, Austen was early 19th century, not 18th!:))

Hi DóRéMi and welcome, interesting question, so I googled a bit The Jane Austen's House Museum collection at Chawton, UK, comprises "objects of international significance including manuscript letters from Jane Austen and many of her music books with pieces transcribed in her own hand". I guess that is what you are looking for? Maybe you could contact the people running the museum and ask whether they sell facsimiles or know where to purchase them. Here is the link to the museum site: Jane Austen House or you could try the Jane Austen Society Jane Austen Society Please let us know if you find something.

thanks everyone : ) what about other compilations? I'm asking this on the forum, because I've looked around the nacional library of my country, and music is not very popular on it. I'm looking for 18th century music, that wasn't made by those big names of classical music, and I thoungt Jane Austen was a good start since she is very famous, maybe her music notebooks wold be avaiable to buy or download. Sakari, I'm aware that she lived in the transition of the century, more in the 18th then the 19th though... buuut europe didn't enter the romantic period on 1/1/1800 lol the influences of the 18th were still there, historians can say it starts in 1815, but that's not all true. XD

I'm not really sure what kind of music you're looking for, besides just "not big name classical." Are you looking for folk music? Of what country? There are several books published with Irish, Scottish, or English dance tunes from the 1700's (the 18th century). People from all walks of life danced to these tunes (although some of the English were by Purcell, who was fairly well known).

I thought there was a book, or perhaps a CD, published not so very long ago, of "the music of Jane Austen". I recall reading that it was of selections that she had hand-copied into her notebooks. Does anyone else remember this? Edited to add Here's a relevant thread from the past

Cathy I want to know if it's possible to find on th einternet or buy, some music notebooks that people made during the 18th century, because I'm trying to find other composers that are not bach, mozart and beethoven, I want to have look at the minor composers. lol I don't have a preference to any country, I just want to have a look on some pieces that weren't made by those 3 guys. (In my world Purcell is not famous, I only heard of him on pride and prejudice...) @tangleweeds: I found a cd once, but it had some people singing, and that wasn't what I was looking for... thanks for the old topic, I will have a look at it in a moment.
